IF

As has been predicted (somewhere):

1. Obama deems that ALL are equal and mandates that gay marriage be allowed and honored;

2. Obama makes great strides in helping the most poverity stricken among us;

3. Obama makes great strides in universal healthcare;

4. Obama is a true advocate for children - their healthcare, their education, and those living in poverty;

5. Obama legalizes marijuana;

6. Bush and Cheney et al crimes are investigated and punishment given;

Would we as democrats stop bitching - or would we find something else? Just wondering.

1. Can he stand on his head though??
He hasn't even assumed the Office of President yet, so we have plenty of time to see what we want to complain about..

3. That is a good question
and I don't know that there's one right answer, but my take on it is that as progressives, there will always be work to be done. Don't get me wrong - I think it would be awesome if Obama were able to accomplish all of those things! However, even if he does, I imagine that there would still be many other worthy causes to be taken up by us bleeding-hearts. ;) I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's always room for improvement. Peace.

9. I'm just wondering
if we all don't get our way and everything that we want - can we all stick together and continue to give him our full support - if we are watching him doing and trying to do all that he promised and we expect of him.

4. Well, there are a few other things:
1) save the economy
2) get us out of Iraq
3) close Gitmo, end rendition, and end torture
4) give workers and unions an even break
5) change the tax codes to favor the poor and middle class, rather than the rich

And as stupid as the drug laws (and the so-called 'war on drugs') are, I won't demand the legalization of marijuana as a major policy success.

6. Good response
because, despite his best efforts (and Republicans) he may not be able to save the economy, but he can try, and troops may still have to remain for some time in Iraq (although not nearly at the current level), I do believe he will definitely close Gitmo and end rendition and torture.

Legalizing marijuana would be a cash cow in more ways than one. Actually - all drugs should be legalized. The war on drugs has proven to be a total failure.

10. Why?
He isn't even in office yet - and it seems like to me - many are ready to throw him under the bus.

8. At what point do you have no oversight responsibility for your government?

11. That isn't what I'm saying
We all have responsibility - I just wish we could have remained more supportive, at least until he got into office.

13. He'll be okay. And we'll be a better people for our honest disagreements.
I don't worry about Obama much. :)

12. If:
Edited on Mon Jan-12-09 05:38 PM by Occam Bandage
you can lose your head when all about you
Are losing theirs, and blaming it on the DLC,
If you can doubt Dems when all men trust them
And make no allowance for their trusting too,
If you can complain and not be tired by complaining,
Or being replied to, deal in hyperbole,
Or being flamed, give way to flaming.
And yet don't write too well, nor too wise:

If you can dream--and then make dreams your master,
If you can think--and then make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Trolls and Centrists,
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to see the words you've written
quote-replied by knaves to make a trap for stupid sods,
Or watch the things you've posted quickly locked,
with "flamebait" as the judgement of the mods,

If you can make one heap of all your complaints
And then post "K&R if you agree,"
And hit the greatest page within an hour,
Then copy paste the whole thing the next week,
If you can force your clicks, your keys, and fingers
To type in outrage though of outrage you're sore,
And so complain when there is nothing in you
Except that which says to you: "don't stop, type more!"

If you can talk with tinfoilers and keep your brains in,
Or serve as a mod, but not lose that common touch,
If you can argue for hours, always saying the same thing,
If all men K&R you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving message box
With a huge, unreadable wall of text
Then never mind the tombstones and the threadlocks,
For you'll be a DUer like all the rest!
