First of all, I saw that he would go to no end to steal the election in 2000. He did not want to count the votes. He wanted to win. To hell with the rest of America. He would figure that out once he was sitting in the Oval Office at the White House.
Secondly, I saw that his attitude about "government" was on display early. There was no need for him to stay in Washington. That is why he spent more vacation away from Washington in the first six months than any President in history. The best government was no government, it seemed that Mr Bush was saying?
Then, I saw how arrogant he was upon the world stage. He started making comments about the "axis of evil". He withdrew our country from the Kyoto Treaty after all the hard work of the previous Administration. He turned his back on the efforts in North Korea.
Then I recall how very early in his Administration, he had his supporters on a tour of a submarine, including some from Enron. When they surfaced the submarine, they killed several Japanese students. At about the same time, one of our spy planes was shot down by the Chinese. We had to beg the Russians to deliver it to us piecemeal. The incompetence was obvious very early on.
I remember the Energy meetings with VP Dick Cheney and the beginning of secrecy in this Administration. It only got worse after that. We will probably never know the extent of the secrecy of Bush and Cheney?
Then 9/11 happened. And all of the above events and attitudes were carried forth into the war. And then into Iraq. All the incompetence. All the secrecy. All the arrogance. All the disrespect for our government. That is what I remember about George W Bush. It was those events and those attitudes that shaped my opinion of our 43rd President.
