if you robbed a bank and had a satchel full of cash
would you be able to use that stolen money for bail?

Madoff STOLE $50billion dollars, and I'm pretty sure that "his" collateral is not nearly worth $50billion, so why was he even OFFERED bail??

A story today on CNN said that the "security" detail by his penthouse abode was being put there at HIS EXPENSE..to make sure he did not abscond with any assets.. he's already proved that he plans to (planned to)..and actually DID mail jewelry to his sons..and yet.. he still is on "house arrest", and his bail was not revoked..

Something really reeks about this whole thing... ANY money he has "left" in his accounts should be divvied up between the "customers" he ripped off and THEN he should be tossed into the legal system, sans money.. The money he's still playing with and paying lawyers is NOT HIS!!!

2. It would be held as evidence
And yes, you're right, everything he owns should be ceized and held in evidence.

Except if you do that to innocent people, then they won't be able to defend themselves.

Although that's what they do when they arrest someone on drug charges, without any conviction.

It is certainly a double standard, at the least. Corruption more likely.
