The latest scam?

It strikes me as a scam, but in fact it may not be. But if it isn't, it sure smells bad.

Legal settlement financing. "If we give you the money and you don't win your lawsuit, you owe us nothing."

I've now seen two ads from two different companies for this.

1. Sounds like a high interest loan scam.

Get your expected settlement now, but expect to pay 33% compounded annually if you win. And since some trials can take years, that's a lot of interest.

2. Yup, another scheme to ensure little people end up with nothing

"Give us your big money and we'll get you some change for gas" type deal. Probably an even more evil form of the check advance and more shady than the "cash for gold" scams.
