Man with loaded gun arrested near LAX - Third bust in a week, this one's legitimate IMO

If the guy's story is true, this is why we should offer basic gun safety training in public schools. He claims to have inherited the rifle, put it in his vehicle, and forgot about it.

Anyone who has been properly trained would have checked to make sure the weapon was clear.

This is a legitimate bust, but IMO $25,000 bail is excessive - The worst chage he's likely to face is a misdemeanor.

But we put too many in jail for too many things. You pay the bail, do the time and are back on the street again. There needs to be some streamlining

of handling these nuisance activities.

3. I was cited for a loaded gun in city limits once in the'80s
I was shooting a .22 in an area that was undeveloped, but technically inside the city of San Diego.

It ended up being an infraction with a $50 fine. This should be a ticket, not an arrest.

2. Holcomb says a .22-caliber long rifle was found in the trunk of Sargent's car during a random check.
Jesus, what are the odds?

I go to the airport several times a month....the Nahn Wun Wun airport, too, Logan, where the charming spit-spewing state police pound on your hood with a clenched fist and scream at you if you take too long with the "loading and unloading of passengers" bit. I used to go to NATIONAL a lot in years past, too.

Always in a private vehicle.

I've never once been subject to a "random check."

Of course, I've never had anything fishy in my car, either.

7. This is a different story than any of the other threads AFAIK

This one is unique because it's the only one in which there was an actual violation of California law.

That and the fact that nobody cares. Looks like DU has reached "Guns at LAX" saturation.
