Read them while you can, most of it is not positive.

1. One poster said ABOLISH THE GOVERNMENT...
their comment was given a positive rating 91 times! The Congressional douchebags then marked it as spam, but you can still see it there. Just show comments marked as spam.

17. Pretty fucking hilarious, like I said below, now we know why Congress doesn't have a forum.
I can only imagine the vitriol that would come out of the population there.

22. LOL "great job sell out America. you should all be fired"
LOL I can't help myself, the comments are just golden!

Something fishy is going on though. I've never seen a Youtube video get the hits this one's getting. Now US is invading Youtube.

Thanks for posting this.

23. OMG! They could use a grammar lesson,
but fuck they are golden aren't they. You see, these douchebags never get comments like that because they all take part in forums where there is security and "disrespectful" people are removed by security guards.

2. Wow. Congress is so hip and phunky phresh these days.
I haven't seen Congress so relevant to the youth culture since Al D'amato slew a Taxasaurus Rex with a giant novelty pencil.

5. They're doing something unconstitutional by disabling comments...
The message I just sent to the account, and to whomever reads it:

Subject: If it's an account held by the US Government, or individuals acting on the authority of the US Government

Body: then comments should be allowed, . Perhaps Congress should clean up its act, maybe people wouldn't be so angry with our government and perhaps you folks could post video with comments enabled.

Per the First Amendment to the United States Constitution (with irrelevant parts edited for clarity):
"Congress shall make no law...abridging...the right of the people...to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Comments on a government YouTube account are a forum for the people to petition the Government for a redress of grievances, and as such should be un-moderated, beyond threats of violence, or any other statements that might be construed to violate the laws of this country.

8. Oh, lord. Give it up.
That's like saying Congress forbidding me from spray painting grafitti on the Capitol dome is curtailing my first amendment rights.

telling Congress to go fuck itself is not.

It doesn't harm any structure, now does it?

What kind of absurd point is that?

3. Don't ya love the rightie bozos?
One said that he lived under the "FDR Reich".

I'd like to ask what that guy does for a living. If he isn't filthy rich, he benefitted from the New Deal.

Ya gotta love these Republicans who rant about the New Deal and Great Society, then demand help from the government when they screw up. Retards.

7. I wish I had enough money, I'd sue them to turn the comments back on.
It's sounds silly, but if it's a government account, it must follow the laws of the land, and their account should be considered a forum to engage in a redress of grievances.

but if the government is going to participate in open forums, it must be as open as possible and must follow the US Constitution. The only legitimate reason they could have to remove a comment is that it's encouraging violence or other lawbreaking activity.

Without that, all that will occur is a one-sided top down discussion, where the government can freely propagandize the people, without any check whatsoever.

But at least they are trying to reach out, and maybe they can say things that will help people understand why and what they do.

If it is just a chance to spin or BS, your right it will get lots of comments. But even that is a good thing. It might help remove the bubble some leaders end up in. Letters written to congress are usually from really politically active people, same with articles in papers. With You tube, they are going to hear from a different group of people.

But there is one consideration, the comments could come from anywhere, so it could be a reflection of world opinion, and could even be freeped like a poll, or spammed.

Although they might end up feeling like these guys did.

I am in way too good of a mood today, but just funning around, I know the metaphors can be seen many ways. Probably was a bad joke, but every person probably feels that way at one time or another.

cool someone put entire movie on you tube, that movie is funny, going to watch it again.

19. YouTube knows the IP addresses of the people doing the posting...
and they can block people from foreign countries. That would only allow people with American IP addresses to post, or the very rare circumstance when someone from a foreign country uses a proxy in America to post, to hide the IP address.

That's what could be done, and it could be a very simple script too.

24. What a great scam: People reply/vent on YouTube instead of contacting their representatives.
And feel like they're accomplishing something.

26. Are you telling the offices of 435/100 people could handle 150-200 million calls/e-mails/letters?
Edited on Tue Jan-13-09 04:51 PM by originalpckelly
That's lower than the actual full population, I'm assuming the very young are too young to contact them.

This system of government is not representative, and it can be proved with simple math and common sense.

but to make you feel like you've been listened to and heard, then nothing happens.
