1. His side of the story:
He worked at the World Bank and didn't know they didn't withhold taxes. He has since made amends with the IRS.

He had a maid. He checked her papers. She was legal. Her work permit expired. He didn't know.

Meanwhile, Bush admits he authorized torture, which is a war crime.

3. Sure..
Even direct deposits provide a checkstub that very clearly shows deductions or the lack of them.. He thought he'd gotten away with something, and kept his trap shut..

Do any high-profile people these days hire nannies/household help that are citizens of the US??? (rhetorical question, since that would require paying them a living wage)

2. CBS Marketwatch:Geithner made honest mistakes on taxes, Obama spokesman says
&distTim Geithner, President-elect Barack Obama's nominee to head the Treasury Department, made "honest mistakes" on taxes and is the right person for the job, an Obama spokesman said Tuesday. "He made a common mistake on his taxes, and was unaware that his part-time housekeeper's work authorization expired for the last three months of her employment," incoming White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. Earlier Tuesday, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, raised questions about the housekeeper and multiple years when Geithner didn't pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for himself

9. What's the deal with these D.C. folks hiring maids?
Don't they have wives to clean up their own house? Or better yet, they should pick up after themselves. :)
