Leahy's got insiders, such as the fired USA's lined up FOR WEEKS to spill dirt after dirt after dirt on the admin. This is going to be death by a thousand cuts and it is going to be a BEAUTIFUL thing.And he wasn't the only one last night who indicated there is a LONG, EXTENSIVE list of things they have prepared for the coming weeks and these hearings. Other's indicated the same. The WH is about to get the most vicious beating we've seen in a long, long time. *Snicker*

They do have the power to hold hearings, investigate and gather the evidence. They do have power to decide the outcome of impeachment proceedings. When they are filed. And hopefully they won't do it frivolously. That means making sure they have a case and they have the support of the American people that forces enough Republican Senators to vote to remove Bush.

It doesn't do any good to yell lock them up now unless they are able to force it to happen.

We don't have US Attorneys at this point that would arrest or prosecute Bushwad.

We won't be able to hold dimwad and his buddies accountable until we go thru this process. It requires building the case so that it holds water. Even if there is enough to hold them accountable. We can't put something out there that later turns out to be false. That will hurt the case and make it difficult to prosecute. The case has to be built layer by layer.

From the gist of the interview Leahy expects to have the culprits hang themselves via the testimony of the career employees and jilted appointees. And if they do it right the public will trust the Republicans even less than they do now. If they do it right their normal big money contributors will dry up and they will have fewer candidates to run for elected office.

They are trying to signal clearly to the "other side" how strong their hand is. They want to make sure that the Bushies know they believe they will win. One likely consequence, if the Bushies are rational, is that they will back down from the ridiculous "deal" they offered and that the testimony will begin without subpoenas. They might throw the Bushies a little face saving device to get this done more quickly.

32. Essentially what happened in my view was..

Bush offered Miers and Rove up off the record because he wants to see what the Democrats have got. Once they know what the evidence is, they can cover their asses, much like they did with the Plame case.

The deal offered up also stipulated that they would not agree to an ensuing subpeona. The Repubs on the Judiciary Committee kept repeating over and over yesterday, why do we have to do this now, why not question them first and see if subpeonas are needed. Leahy and Schumer kept reminding them that wasn't part of the deal, and the Repubs kept weakly arguing that they could possibly convince the White House otherwise. Therein was the trap that the media kept referring to, and it was a weak one.

Bush would make it appear as if he was compromising, when essentially he was trying to dictate to the Democrats how this investigation would go. No dice. Leahy and company are too smart for that.

He was fucking brilliant yesterday. Loved the smackdowns on Specter, Hatch, and Sessions when they tried to argue that Bush was probably bluffing when he said it was the "final offer". Leahy kept repeating "why would the President mislead me?", and "I'm taking the President at his word." Did they not grasp the irony that they were telling Leahy the White House was probably lying, while also trying to convince him that they could be trusted?

Equally as offensive are the accusations that the Democrats are playing politics with this. I mean, exactly what the fuck is all of this about? The fucking Republicans have played politics with the American justice system. Beneath contempt, every single one of them.
