Mickey Rourke: yet another dumbass celeb I can add to my "ignore" list
http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/79536/Rourke-Bush-was-in-the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time

<snip>
The Hollywood tough-guy spoke out about his political views in a candid interview with Britain's GQ magazine, and admits he doesn't understand why so many people blame Bush for a string of world issues - including Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism in the West.
...
And the star is baffled by the U.K.'s approach to fundamentalists - insisting he was taken aback by the freedom of speech allowed in the U.K.

He explains, "I was in London recently and I couldn't believe all these hate-talking fanatics you have over here who are allowed to carry on doing their thing even when a bus full of women and children gets blown to pieces.
<snip>

I love it when these fucking idiots identify themselves, so we can decide if we want to continue supporting their careers or not. Mr. Rourke, please join the likes of Ted Nugent, Kelsey Grammar, Ned Beatty, and other dumbass fucktards. I'm sure that the dozen of you can have a jolly old time together.

What's really sad is that he was a nice-looking guy:

41. No kidding. It is exactly what was done to the Dixie Chicks.
I don't understand boycotting an artist's work because of their opinions. Should we ban Picasso's art because he was a misogynistic asshole? It just doesn't make sense to me.

If you enjoy an actor or musician or artists work enjoy it. I don't think that has much to do with how you view them as a person.

Most of the time, it's not much of an issue anyway. RW "artists" are usually of the ilk of Ted Nugent, Dennis Miller or that vapid twit from The View. I mean...really.

17. Mickey Roarke can't understand the concept of bathing...
Edited on Tue Jan-13-09 07:38 PM by bliss_eternal
....or brushing his teeth. So why would anyone expect him to "get" what a disaster 'w' was?

I'm not kidding. Apparently Mickey is oh so nasty. Back when he worked more frequently (at least the low budget stuff), he didn't just look like he smelled--dude was royally ripe on set daily. Not to mention placing food in his pockets and forgetting about it for days on end. It's NOT a coincidence he just fell off the face of the earth and seemed to not work anymore.

So, maybe I'll consider Mr. Roarke's political views when he does the world a favor, and washes his ass. Until then....um.....thanks for sharing Mickey. :scared:

19. One director said he was dangerous on the set....
you never knew what he was going to do. He's also turned down some primo roles such as Silence of the Lambs and Rain Man.

I'm guessing this popularity wagon he's on right now won't last.

Edited on Tue Jan-13-09 07:58 PM by bliss_eternal
...I usually don't give much credence to such reports. But it wasn't isolated to one or two. Add to that a couple of friends that worked on sets and saw him in action (and got a whiff of him). :scared:

I was shocked anyone hired him. On edit, productions have to insure the actors and if someone has a rep for "danger" for whatever reason it makes the costs of a film substantial--which is why some people simply can't get work, when they get a bad rep. Producers won't pay the heavy insurance fees to cover the cost of working with 'problem' talent.

You're probably correct that his current streak won't last.

I remember seeing an E! show on him years ago about him in France, where they worship(ped) him a'la Jerry Lewis. Treated the French very poorly and so I'm not surprised to read this quote.

This guy used to be a great actor. I had no clue what his politics were.

I guess my attitude is: Who cares? I still like his older movies, and I'm ashamed of his politics, and I'm able to accept both of these facts at the same time without getting freaked out about it.

24. No one on this thread answered my question
and I am sorry but I can't go along. He doesn't bathe so I have heard that is true. But I think he was a great actor and I hate the way a post here gets all the nay sayers to come on line so fast. Doesn't anyone out there think he was a good actor aside from 9 1/2 weeks. He knew he made a big mistake and he stayed out of movies for years and I know his plastic surgery went wrong but I don't care I like him still. You are all so fast to jump on the idiot band wagon. I think he has a a really rough go of it. I think he was and still is a great actor.

32. yes, it's a state crime to laugh at pelosi's facelift, even though she helped
enable mass murder, & then profited financially from it -

but a once down-on-his luck actor - oooh, pile on.

who gives a rip if mickey rourke doesn't shower? really. furthermore, he has an opinion on politics. so what?

he doesn't have the power to kill a million people, like bush & pelosi do.

38. I thought 9-1/2 weeks was garbage,
and I'm no fan of Charles Bukowski, but his work in Diner - and he was just a kid - was terrific.

He seemed to be possessed of a huge talent in that movie, but, apparently, something went very wrong. That's a pity. I don't know that he's got many roles that would work for him, so to see him redeem his career - such as it is - in a vehicle like The Wrestler, is reassuring.

We all need second chances. And third. Fourth. Fifth...............

Just because someone is in a "good" movie (which is subjective anyways), doesn't mean I'm going to support that person's career. That's my choice, if you decide you want to, then go ahead.

What I mind is when the President and his administration think like this. O'Rourke hasn't killed anyone as far as I know, but Bush et al sure have.

For myself, I find that separating the art from the artist saves me a bit of frustration and increases my enjoyment factor tenfold.

All other things being equal, I'll never place an artist on 'ignore' simply because they may or may not believe a thing. Were that to be the case, my enjoyment of a wide range of artists would be denied-- from Gore Vidal (a bit too left even for my tastes) to William Buckley-- both of whom I believe to be magnificent writers and impart to me a sense of magic re: the English language, yet both maintain political positions that are not up my own alley.
