Duh: Republican party is sinking

Posted by Evan Derkacz at 6:58 AM on March 23, 2007.

Poll reveals "dramatic decline" since 2002...

According to the LA Times:

The survey, by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center for People and the Press, found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, half of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, while only 35% aligned with Republicans.

What's more, the survey found the public attitudes are drifting toward Democrats' values: Support for government aid to the disadvantaged has grown since the mid-1990s, skepticism about the use of military force has increased and support for traditional family values has edged down.

Now, the important thing.

Will the Democrats see this as an opportunity to lead or follow? And it's not what you think. In other words, will they see this as having happened despite them or because of them? If they're smart, they'll see this as a HUGE wink wink nudge nudge telling them to follow the people and move that danged center progressive-ward...

2. "...follow the people and move that danged center progressive-ward..."

Absolutely!

Forget this notion of pandering to "swing voters," trying to carefully tune a message to (hopefully, maybe, heck who knows) satisfy their shifting whims.

Stand up, proudly state the case for progressive policies... and I'm convinced a fair number of those "swing voters" will perk up and say, "Yeah. I'm on board with that. You've got my vote."

Meantime, the progressive MAJORITY in this country will be energized like never before. There just may be a Great Awakening happening in America now, as people finally embrace the Liberal values that made this nation great.

Every single one of our candidates and party leaders needs to recognize what's going on, and grab hold of the momentum that's building.

3. But...but....
If we actually said anything (whisper) "liberal", the Republicans might say bad things about us and then we'd never win an election!

(Should I include the sarcasm smiley?)

10. LOL. :)
It's hard to know when to include the sarcasm smiley these days, and when it's safe to leave it out, isn't it?

:hi:

6. I love your sig pic and slogan.
Elections do indeed, thankfully, have consequences, Barbara.

Great job smacking down Inhofe! Too bad you didn't do it with your mallet, it might have knocked some sense into the man.

8. "support for traditional family values has edged down."
"What's more, the survey found the public attitudes are drifting toward Democrats' values:"
:wtf: Are they suggesting that Democratic Values are not Family Values?
"Support for government aid to the disadvantaged" No value to that I guess unless you are a Democrat..
"skepticism about the use of military force has increased" Wow we are no where near family values there. IMO "Family Values" means Kill them "ragheads"....
