My lovely wife and I are both celebrating anniversaries today!

This is not something that I'd have posted here when I first joined this site in 2003. When Kephra passed, however, Plaid Adder made a point that we are a family of a sort. She was right and I know that I've appreciated the many DUers who've shared both the joys and sorrows of their lives since. I know that the DUers who are no longer with us will be celebrating in the afterlife along with us here when the occupation ends on 1/20 @ noon.

Today I celebrate 19 years of sobriety. No alcohol since 1/14/90. I would be proud except for the fact that I remember just what a pathetic dip-shit I was as a drunk. I spent the years from 13 to 34+ in an bushian alcoholic fog. If I'd have met my wife then, she would have justifiably blown me off as fast as jenna bush blows the head off of her breakfast beer.

Today my wife celebrates 11 years since she stopped smoking. she deliberately picked the anniversary of my recovery to quit. I'm probably prouder of her than I am of myself. I'm certainly happy that our son is growing up in a substance free home.

Anyway, I thought I'd share. Thanks for "listening".

I stopped drinking and using drugs back in 1985 when I was 34 years old. It hasn't been easy at times, but I re-married in 1990 and my wife had our first child in 1991, a daughter and in 1994 we had a son. The fact that my children who are now 17 and 14 have never seen me using helps me know I have done the right thing. I actually stopped smoking first back in 1978, and it was harder to do that staying clean and sober! And what is really great is my daughter was born on the same day that I stopped drinking so I have twice as much to celebrate on her birthday!

I am so glad that my wife and son have never seen me drunk. I think they'd forgive me ONCE, but I have no intention of ever testing that.
