I found an interesting article from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution which finishes with:

But irregardless of whether or not mankind is influencing climate change, our current path of using fossil fuel to produce power is fraught with danger. Pollution harms the environment and our health in many ways.

My hope is that the new Obama administration will focus on moving to greener forms of energy. Not only would the effort help revitalize the economy by creating new jobs, but we would reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Energy independence is possible and might keep us out of engaging in wars to obtain oil or providing immense sums of money to regimes that would use the money to do us harm.

my hope is that we as the citizens of the planet demand that we move forward as a species. Not grow or any of that, but move forward as in evolve. Sounds like you are ready for that, too.

10. We may be able to move forward if we stop

large multinational corporations from controlling our government.

I seriously doubt that big oil wants to see our economy move from fossil fuels to green energy. I also doubt that the big power companies want to see inexpensive solar panels installed on a majority of roofs, they might prefer to build nuclear power plants. Just two examples.

To be honest, I fear that our politicians all too often pay us lip service but jump to the requests of the big corporate powers.

Election campaigns are very expensive and corporate donations may well make the difference between being elected and being out on the street looking for a real job like most American wage slaves.

that's not a wise business move on the part of the hardware store.

I had something similar come up with a fire-extinguisher repair company. I told them that I thought a political sign was inappropriate and would alienate some customers... me, for instance. Guy said it's free speech. I said that I have the freedom to do business elsewhere, but I'd like to to business with a local. I said that he didn't have to change what he thinks, but that if he took the sign down, I'd buy from him. He said he didn't want my business.
