Tell Mayor Bloomberg: NYC Should Have Parade for Flight 1459 Pilot, Crew, & Rescue Workers
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 10:06 PM by The System Stinks
Mayor Bloomberg has always been one to say "Where should the money come from?'

Well Mr. Mayor, if the Giants had won the Super Bowl, there would have been a parade...

Who has ever been more deserving to be honored in lower Manhattan's "Canyon of Heroes" than Capt. Sullenberger, his crew, and the rescue workers who got everyone off of that plane alive?

Please ask the Mayor to do the right thing by leaving a note in his 'suggestion box' at: http://www.nyc.gov/portal/site/nycgov/menuitem.bd08ee7c7c1ffec87c4b36d501c789a0/index.jsp?doc_name=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nyc.gov%2Fhtml%2Fmail%2Fhtml%2Fmayor.html

3. No. Maybe medals at City Hall.
They did what they were trained to do. They did what they should do. And, frankly, it's not nice to get all showy 15-minutes-of-fame about it. They're going to do it again. And again. If something happens, they'll be there. Again. How ridiculous to plan a party every time.

You're acting like this was unusual. Maybe where you live. But this is New York.

4. I can live with your suggestion, but for the record
1 - this is unusual. normally 100+ people would be dead.
2 - I'm a native New Yorker -- o.k. born in Jersey, but a city dweller for over 30 years, and
3 - I'm a Yankees and Giants fan. I'd rather see these people get a parade than a local sports team, who by the way, were just doing their job too...

6. Less unusual and more unprecedented
A full passenger plane ditching without any injuries, never mind fatalities, hasn't happened in the entire history of ever. The combination of that and the fact that everyone who touched this whole situation who wasn't a goose handled it as perfectly as they possibly could have is what makes it great.

5. and another thing...
as you have given me pause to think about it (and for he record, I don't much care for parades) BUT

how many of those honored with NYC ticker-tape parades were NOT just 'doing their jobs' ?

By that logic, I guess we should cancel the ones on Memorial Day and Veterans Day too. And totally forget about the ones that have to do with ethnicity as opposed to accomplishment... (Columbus Day falls into both categories...)

no offense, like I said, I'm not a fan of parades. But, we make up stupid excuses for other ones...
