Hutchison more than $1M ahead of Perry in funding going into Texas governor's race

AUSTIN – Kay Bailey Hutchison goes into the governor’s race more than $1 million ahead of Gov. Rick Perry after transferring almost all the money she had raised as a senator, the strongest signal yet she intends to challenge her fellow Republican.

Perry completed a six-month fundraising blitz, leaving him with $6.6 million in his campaign treasury, according to his latest report. Hutchison starts the year with $7.8 million in the bank, mostly transferred money.

For months, Perry allies have questioned whether Hutchison will actually seek to unseat the governor in the 2010 GOP primary.

1. Two fools going at it. The best-case scenario for me would be for
both of them to raise more money than God and then burn it all by annihilating each other in the primary.

Just because you agree with her doesn't make her a fool.

3. I don't agree with her, Mookie.
If Perry outwits her and cranks up his fundie base, she'll look foolish enough.

6. Mookie. Count to 10 and read my post again.
You're missing a couple of key points.

I don't like either one of them. I already know they have constituencies.

10. Agree -- I only wish Texas folks had a better choice all around.
There are progressives in Texas, but the Republicans pretty much own the state, unfortunately.

I still have a lot of respect for Texas as a place, though. Larry McMurty has some terrific essays on Texas history and culture that are revealing and interesting -- an funny. I came away with a lot more respect for Texas than I had going in.
