So the Big 3 build hybrids
as long as gas is below $3.00 or $3.50 they are not feasible and will not sell. When the Big 3 get burnt on hybrids and electrics will you all blame them for not making what people want? The sales on the Prius were down 45% in December and the waiting list is gone. The only vehicles moving now are the big 4x4 suvs and pickups.

1. A sliding tax on gasoline (which is keyed to keep prices higher and stable)
would solve both this problem and help reduce the budget deficit.

3. In the end the economy NEEDS to have a stable price for fuel
otherwise neither people nor industry can properly plan for future purchases. A bad economy hurts the middle class as much as anyone.

4. I understand your concept but I have a problem with it
OK so higher gas prices will force change and make people buy greener, more fuel efficient cars. Those that can afford greener more fuel efficient cars that is.

The higher the price the harder it is on those who already can't afford to buy a used car. Now you are putting more finical strain on these people and driving them further down the financial hole.

There has to be a better way to drive change than to cause further pain on those who are already suffering.

7. While I wish there was a better way, but there isn't
Sometimes you have to take painful actions to ensure any sort of good future.

5. I pity the fool that does that. You think SS is a 3rd rail
you tax gas like that the right would have have a field day on that one.

8. Oh I don't disagree. It would be political poison
still it's an action that needs to be taken.

6. The low gas prices ain't gonna stick around that long
If they're smart, they'll keep on planning for the end of oil. Hopefully they're smartening up.

9. The majority of the American people are dumber than
a rock. They see gas is low now and it's snowing so they think 4x4. Ask any car salesman, if you get an early snow people suddenly show up looking for a 4x4. The vast majority of the American public will not buy a hybrid or an electric unless gas is extremely high and like Mr. T says I pity the fool that taxes the shit out of gas.

10. partially agree
They ARE fucking stupid, no question. But I think things are really bad and are going to get worse.

I don't think it's going to be so easy for them to forget this time.

Maybe I'm wrong...

11. I know several people that have gone and bought
new pickups and suvs lately, they say they are practically giving them away. One guy I know bought a brand new $43000 Chevy diesel pickup for $23000 a few days ago.
