Is the Hudson landing an omen or a metaphor?
That when competent experienced people are put in charge, we will survive even the disasters?

3. Good question
On the one hand, everyone did survive...

On the other, they landed in the Hudson...

So maybe it says that even with a competent leader saving our asses, we'll still be knee-deep in shit.

Take his wars for example.

9. No, it's a random occurrence
and competence is never any guarantee of success.

11. Competence may not be a guarantee of success.
But I'll take competence every time. The last eight years have proved that choices made on the basis of personal connections and blind loyalty just ... don't ... work.

13. I see it as an omen of things to come.
The first 'disaster' story of the year, a resounding success of cool headed people.

14. Not necessarily either...
But I wish to feel optimistic, therefore I will interpret it as follows:

We're crashing and there's no way to avoid it. Fortunately there are competent and calm pilots who are going to manage to guide us through it in such a way that we will survive to rise again.

Or maybe we're all going to end up bobbing in the Hudson...
