The unsung heroes of the Hudson River incident....flight attendants.
Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 04:56 PM by Bluebear
Of course, Captain "Sully" demonstrated skill beyond compare bringing that jet down... but amongst the media people praising the ferry boat captains and rescue personnel, I didn't hear boo about the people who safely evacuated 150 passengers in under 90 seconds before the plane sank.

Well done, flight attendants!

1. My parents were in a crash at that airport in the '60's. The pilot
had given the wheel to a supervisor who was going to show him how to save gas by making a "close" landing. The plane came in and hit a dyke (piers in the water) and flipped over 7 times and landed upside down in a swamp just before the runway. My folks were hanging from their seatbelts. The plane started to burn. The attendants got everybody down and out of that plane in about 90 seconds.

This pilot was amazing but you are right...the attendant are unsung heros.

6. What an awful experience.
Glad there were survivors. And the attendants have to think only of others in a time like that.
Unsung for sure.

4. The plane sank in 90 seconds?
I thought they towed it to shore and tied it to a pier, and plan to hoist it out of the water tomorrow.

Not taking anything away from the flight crew, clearly they did their jobs quite well, everybody did get out in a timely manner, but the plane didn't sink.

5. However, water was up to their waists as they waded out of the plane
onto the nearly submerged wings.

7. Flight attendants are tasked with evacuating an aircraft in 90 seconds or less by law.
And this looks pretty sunk!

8. I agree - a big toast to the Flight Attendants
I'd say a big well done by all! And everyone pay attention to the safety cards and safety briefings.
