Pot-laced brownies sicken Galveston students
Pot-laced brownies sicken Galveston students

A student at Ball High School in Galveston has been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after fellow students said they bought brownies from him and then became anxious and dizzy when they ate them, officials said.

The suspect’s name cannot be released because he is a juvenile, said Galveston Independent School District Police Chief LeeRoy Amador.

District officials said the student has been removed from campus and possible discipline will be determined later as the case is investigated. He could be eligible to attend an alternative campus while the case is ongoing, they said.

Amador said that at least four students, ranging in age from 14 to 16, complained of dizziness and rapid heartbeats at the school health clinic between about 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday .

1. Is this related to that 15 year old who was busted for stealing two brownies?

10. There is a lot of difference between partaking a drug voluntarily and unknowingly
In the mid-seventies I worked in a Workman's Compensation office. One group of claims that came in was for a half dozen yacht salesmen. Some unknown person had brought in a cake laced with LSD for coffee break. Two of the men had nervous breakdowns, one injured himself while under the influence, and the rest had hallucinations for days.

While using pot or LSD can be fun in the right circumstances when you are expecting the effects, they can be terrifying if you do not know what is going on. Dosing unsuspecting people is not fun - it is cruel.

4. Yeah, that was just dumb...
When I was 18, my boyfriend and I made brownies. He left them in his kitchen, and I said, dude, you better stash those before your mom and sister get home. Naw, sez he, they are both on diets and won't touch them. Dude, sez me, women on diets confronted with freshly baked brownies are going to pig out. Naw, sez he, don't worry about it. You got the parries (paranoia).

So we go out in the back yard, trippin'. An hour or so later, b/f's mom comes out and sez, did you eat any of those brownies? Nance ate some and she is feeling really sick! (Nance was an RN.) I sez, naw, I didn't eat any... dude... I gotta go home. Later he calls and said Nance ate a whole stinking row of brownies! I ate just one large one and I was toast for the rest of the day! She went to the emergency room, where she was diagnosed with stress related low blood pressure... I kid you not.

Ahhh... the memories of my youth never fail to put a big grin on my face:)

Getting high when you don't know you are getting high must be scary.

Brownies... then Fritos... num!

I've always found that eating the bud produces a stronger, longer lasting buzz... but I love the ritual of smoking:)

11. Ok...let me get this straight.
These kids paid someone $4-$5 for a brownie, and thought they were just regular brownies? Right.:silly:

13. I was thinking the same thing
They got caught, and ratted their 'dealer' out. That's what happened.

I can't imagine any high-schooler, no matter how dumb, buying a brownie from another student for $5 and not knowing it was a pot brownie. They can buy regular brownies at a convenience store for under a dollar!

Not at first, but in subsequent applications. Sublime mental effect, inconvenient physical effect. Bummer.

18. It wasn't the brownies -- it was all of the Funyuns they consumed
afterward that gave them bellyaches.

19. One Christmas a friend harvested a large pot plant and gave me and my roommates
the freshly-picked bush with many leaves still attached. In a dazzling moment of creativity I decided to make use of the entire plant instead of throwing it away. So I cut up all the twigs and stalks and even the big limbs that were a half inch in diameter and threw them all into a kettle with 15 pounds of butter. After slowly simmering for several hours we strained out all of the fibrous matter, then poured the butter into paper cups and allowed it to cool.

When we peeled the cups off of our newly formed bong-o butter we had beautiful greenish-hued cylinders of maximum strength brownie butter. But we didn't just use them for baking brownies. We put the butter on lots of dishes including honey-buttered biscuits.

Talk about a culinary treat. We even wrapped them in foil, put red ribbons on them and gave them away for Christmas gifts to VERY appreciative friends.

Waste not. Want not.

Plus, no lung damage.

Literally the perfect brain food.

20. Those pot brownies can be exceedingly potent.
And they are deceptive because they take much more time for the body to absorb. The teens probably assumed they weren't very strong, and ate 3 or 4 of them, and gradually got extremely messed-up.

22. I can laugh about it, years later,
but I was messed up for days. It was not funny at the time, being so incapacitated.

I should have guessed by looking at the bright green color of the normally yellow "butter cookies" that they were strong. LOL!

I didn't feel a buzz when I went to sleep at midnight. I woke up the next morning and got ready for work. On my way there I realized, "Holy shit! I am stoned." I did the best I could to avoid talking to anyone. All I wanted to do was lie down. I didn't feel better until 2:00 in the afternoon.

25. Those pot cookies/brownies are insidious.
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 02:05 AM by quantessd
I had already sworn off smoking pot, but I thought eating some innocent looking green cookies would be fun-n-games. One after another. I ate several...

I couldn't sleep, and I imagined that the wall fixtures were trying to communicate with me.
I do believe that was the last time I ever had marijuana, in any form.

(edit for grammar)
