You Can't Fire Me... I'm Drunk! (Wanna be drunk on the job? Move to Peru)
Move to Peru. And, no, not just because of your impressive and all-consuming obsession with alpacas.

The Constitutional Tribunal in Peru - their highest court - just ruled that janitor Pablo Cayo, who was fired for being intoxicated on the job, should get his job back. The court's decision was based on the fact that, though Pablo was as drunk as a skunk, he didn't actually hurt or offend anyone because of it.

The government is understandably irritated with the decision, which may have wide-reaching implications for employers all over Peru. Pablo's former boss, Celso Becerra, was obviously displeased, saying:

"We've fired four workers for showing up drunk, and two of them were drivers," he said. "How can we allow a drunk to work who might run somebody over?"

5. What jobs?
I suspect drinking will be going up exponentially in the coming year in any case.

8. I guess mopping out toilets contrary to driving cars does make a difference and
anyone who shows up drunk to drive should be fired. However, it seems that the Tribunal should have attached some strings to Pablo's decision like requiring him to go to rehab or something like that. IMO though if I had to spend my life cleaning up other people's shit, I'd probably go to work drunk too.
