Hearings in Franken-Coleman Senate Race Case Start Wednesday
Hearings in Franken-Coleman Senate Race Case Start Wednesday
By Emily Cadei, CQ Staff

The final phase in Minnesota’s still-undecided Senate race begins next week.

Three judges chosen by the state Supreme Court will start scrutinizing the ballot-counting procedures used to determine that Democrat Al Franken holds a razor-thin lead over Republican incumbent Norm Coleman.

Coleman has challenged the recount that concluded with Franken ahead by 225 votes out of 2.9 million votes cast in the Nov. 4 election.

The-three-judge panel has scheduled hearings for Jan. 21 and Jan. 23.

On Jan. 21, the panel will hear the Franken campaign’s arguments that the case should be dismissed altogether and that a victory for the Democratic challenger, certified by the state election canvassing board on Jan. 5, should be upheld.
