Police: Three snowmobilers chased, ran over deer
WAUPACA, Wis. — Three snowmobilers, one riding a stolen sled, chased down deer from behind before running them over in a slaughter that left five animals dead, investigators said.

The three Waupaca County men, all from Weyauwega, arrested in the killing of deer last weekend near Waupaca, were booked in the Waupaca County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

They are: Robby Kuenzi, 23, Rory Kuenzi, 24, and Nicholas Hermes, 22.

The men are being held on multiple felony counts of mistreatment of animals. The men face 3 1/2 years and a $10,000 fine on each count.

Investigators found three of the deer in the field Saturday. A snowmobile had stopped atop one of them and ripped open its stomach, said Ted Dremel, a state Department of Natural Resources warden based in Waupaca County.

A fourth deer had broken legs and was euthanized. The fifth deer was dragged from the field and tied to a tree about 25 feet from a road. It strangled itself trying to get free.

The dead deer were two bucks and three does. One was a fawn.

I suppose they really felt like big men doing such a thing.

4. Guns and crossbows don't leave deer to die slowly of
multiple broken legs or strangulation.

I saw a deer once that had been hit by a car and had two legs broken, just hanging there like so much meat, still struggling along in fear and pain.

And obviously these bastards weren't out to eat what they killed either. I'm sure they'll make wonderful soldiers :sarcasm:

9. the fuck they dont
you think it's like laser tag and when they get shot they're just instantly dead??

If they're very lucky they die right away.
Most get lots of time to understand what gun shots or an arrow sticking through them feels like as they lay there dying.
A good number never get the honor of being strapped to some yahooo's bumper - the "get away" and die long lingering deaths.

I've got little problem with killing something to eat it -
but if you're killing for 'sport' I don't see much difference in running it down or shooting it.
Both are barbaric

10. On the other hand sometimes hunting is necessary due to over population.
I've never hunted in my life and don't intend to, but I do think that hunting is sometimes necessary to stop over population and spreading of disease.

11. I agree in some cases
I just think it's incredibly hypocritical of people to be upset with this but OK with shooting at deer.

14. Sorry,
Hunting is still different than chasing animals down for the fun of it. I know there's shitty hunters out there, but the ones I knew took it seriously and tried to minimize the suffering of the animal.
