My biggest pet peeve at DU is......
How members do not ask for clarification or follow ups when it comes to discussions and controversial topics before assigning some sort of judgment.

Some times it is so hard to clearly express the complete nuances and meaning of a subject in the electronic world.

In addition to this, it seems some members are so stubborn to when additional layers are added to the intent of ones content.

All of us, even I, need to be more patient...

5. Have to differ. It's usually best to jump to conclusions immediately,
type a bunch of knee-jerk opinions regardless of the facts of the matter, and then get belligerent with anyone who tries to demonstrate that either/or thinking is usually inappropriate.

It's always worked for me, at least.

10. Any woman who thinks that all C-sections are unnecessary.
My C-section SAVED MY LIFE, literally, and any earth-mother-natural-childbirth-midwives-only type who thinks they are never required to save both mother and baby can just kiss my proud motherly ass.

:wtf:

My grown baby and I are very thankful to be here.

16. I totally agree. I have been flamed many times in error.
It cannot be straightened out either. No matter what is typed, the other person just does not seem to get it. Too many people delibertly try to blur the issue with Red Herrings, False Dilimma, and Strawman arguments also.

37. Simply....
Words can be complex things and carry a person's own interpretation from their own thoughts, experiences and knowledge and sometimes one person's use of a particular word or phrase can have different meanings or be interpreted differently.

For example, the other day I asked a question directed toward what I called the "fine feminists" here at DU. I meant that as an honest compliment. That feminists are wonderful people, but someone declared I was being condescending without even asking what I meant or if I meant to be. I did not.

Then there are the times someone will make a point and then ignore a clarification to the point or additional thoughts on a point.

As someone else added in this this thread, non-face to face conversations are harder sometimes than those in the printed form.

I'd just like to see some more, "did you really mean this" type questions rather than, "you are a sexist asshole" or "you are a racist."

Things like that.

24. It is truly impolite of you to just go to another post
You have been instructed to discuss; you have a comment in mind; you are obliged to express it.

If it is too difficult to type the same thought over and over, do what I do. Keep a text file handy with your favorite retorts. Then just select the appropriate one, right-click "copy" and "paste it in to your reply.

It is really simple to be properly obedient when ordered to discuss.

See:

Bite me.

You are full of shit.

I call bullshit.

Go pound sand.

Suck it, asshole.

Discuss my ass; I say disgust!

Right on!

Excellent post!

My sentiments exactly!

22. Sorry, but I ask for clarification
and specific details each and every day on DU. 99.9% of DUers like to make sweeping statements, but when asked for specifics they run away unable to deliver.
Ask for specific details, end the conversation. Folks here like to declare, not discuss. They proclaim, they do not explain.

is something we accuse the wingnuts of doing and being: seeing everything in absolutes....everything is either black or white, good or evil....no shades of gray at all. Most things are gray...ish.

33. It's not just here at DU....
My biggest peeve on any discussion board I've been on is people who can't disagree without being disagreeable.

I'm all for disagreement...it's mentally stimulating in a way. But why do people have be all snarky and nasty to each other?

I know some subjects are "hot button" issues that people feel pretty passionately about, but geez...sometimes it seems to me that people beat others up for no other reason than to make themselves feel good...

38. But sometimes it is hard to do so, is it not....
Coming here for as long as I have, sometimes I still get surprised at how strung together words can have a different connotation to the people on the other side of my keyboard. Sometimes it is simply another word could have been added or someone else and I have a different frame of mind when it comes to a particular word and its meaning to the individual.

For example, if I type the word "blue," what do you see in your mind? Sky blue? Baby blue? Navy Blue?
