AR-15 Owners ask Obama to go easy on guns. Must See.
I was lurking on an AR-15 website, getting my jollies watching them melt down over the inauguration and then came across this gem.
One of their own posted this vid on the CNN site to make a logical argument why gun control is a bad thing. I have to say. He REALLY made some point! You've got to see it. Hope it helps someone!

1. It would be dumb for the new admin to propose new heavy-handed anti-gun legislation
Frankly, I don't think gun control is anywhere on anybody's radar right now (except for a very vocal few).

I don't either, but this guy sure isn't doing the cause any favours. If the right people see this video, he will become the Poster Child" for more gun control, don't you think? It looks like a scene from a stalker/killer movie.

We need to get out of Iraq and institute universal health care, not steal anyone's guns.

20. Hey, I've Been To That AR-15 Site Before.

Biggest aggregation in history of guys who have seen "Red Dawn" more times than they've had sex (other than self-inflicted).

But let's get real here---take away the goofy mask, and this guy is saying exactly the same things that have been turning up in our own DU Gun Dungeon for months now. The same paranoid bullshit about Obama actually having any time or inclination in the next 8 years to take everybody's guns away. The Gungeon has devolved into one long, ugly Obama-trashing exercise---just like it did for Kerry, and Gore before that. Good luck in refuting this, Mr. Kalashnikitty; there's evidence of it every single day.

And notice something else: the arsenal that this knuckle-dragger is so proudly (and ominously)displaying. Nothing but pistols and military-styled assault weapons---the only sort of firearms that seem to matter to our Gungeon pals. Once again, daily evidence is available....

25. I guess that is as close as you'll come to saying you were wrong about,,,

...how that website reacted to that video. It almost unanimous condemnation.

You say it is "paranoid bullshit" will take away our guns, but he campaigned on reauthorizing the AWB. Its not really paranoia to believe someone will do as they say.

A lot of special interest groups are unhappy with some of Obama's rhetoric and political choices. Have you been to the GLBT and Israel/Palestine forums lately? Arguing for progressive ideals is not "trashing" our President Elect.

You seem to question why people talk about handguns and "military style" semiautos, but maybe thats because gun control advocates are working hard to ban or curtail their ownership where as no one has said much about me owning a bolt-action.

34. You Know What Your Obsession With Obama Taking Your Guns Away Is?

Wishful thinking.

You gun militants just can't function without this sort of full-time paranoid lunacy. You cherry-pick a few quotes from some politicians---invariably Democratic politicians---and all of a sudden the black helicopters are about to land, and those jack-booted thugs are fixing to kick your doors in, just like the NRA said. You people predicted, and fervently hoped, that the guns issue would count for something in this latest election, and that issue ended up counting for jack shit.

If you'll put down the latest issue of "American Rifleman" for just a moment, you might notice that our new president has a few little problems to deal with: you know, things like a world-wide economic collapse, millions of people out of work, a trillion dollar debacle of a war to end, the restoration of this country's shattered world image, a seriously jeopardized environment to confront, and, in his abundant spare time, repairing the U.S. Constitution after that document was used for toilet paper for the last eight years. And you actually believe that Obama's going to have the time or inclination to snatch your guns away? What unbelievable, pompous idiocy.

Eight years from now, you'll still have your guns. And by then, there will be a brand new Democratic presidential candidate for you and your sorry cohorts to savage. Aren't you the lucky one......

38. Hardly, I long for the day when a Democrat wins the presidency & doesn't threaten the 2nd Amendment
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 08:20 PM by aikoaiko
I hope you're correct that the AWB doesn't come to pass, but I wish it were so because of principle not because our leaders are too busy with even bigger issues. But what I really hope for in 8 years is another Democratic President who says he won't sign into law any more federal gun bans.

And then won't you be the lucky one.

You're wrong about the cherry picking quotes -- it's in the Democratic platform and on Change.com, but I'm pretty sure you know that. You're angry and I know why. I just wish you wouldn't lump all RTBA types in the same group.

39. Your Guns (And Mine, By The Way) Are Safe.

If times were good, you might have some basis for worry. Gun control is strictly a good-times effort, regardless of what the Democratic platform might say.

By the way, thanks for the thoughtful response. It does you credit.......

32. Plenty of other guns besides pistols and "assault weapons" matter, but
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 01:33 PM by jmg257
for the most part those aren't under the same..."threats" as the types you mentioned. In fact, a new bill was introduced already which specifically calls for licensing for and registration of ALL handguns and ALL semi-autos. Expanded "assault weapon" bans have already been proposed, may be one is just what Obama wants to make permanent.

But YOU keep thinking gun owners have nothing to worry about, YOU keep telling us it is all paranoid bullshit, and maybe 1 or 2 who are ignorant will agree. Hey - maybe even a few will agree that the bullshit comment "Obama will take everybody's gun away" is actually something that ANY ONE seriously posts on this site, even in the gun forum. In the mean time, most gun owners and others who care about liberty for all will continue to deal with reality, and remain concerned in hopes we will not get screwed again by over-intrusive gun laws, stupid bans, idiotic ammo registration bills, or any other non-sensical, non-reasonable infringment on our rights.

Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 10:37 PM by jmg257
If my post wasn't all so annoyingly true, then I COULD enjoy it even more. I really wish you were right about unfounded paranoia, but in actuality, there is (always) too much at stake to just pretend there is nothing to worry about. As recent & current bills show. And 'Democrat involvement' obviously isn't the issue, 'anti-gun' involvement is. The last AWB was sponsored by Republicans. Bush said he would approve a new ban if it came to him.

Anyway, as I said previously, you don't see a need to worry, and so choose not to. Fine. While I wish it were true, your faith that it is all just 'gun militant paranoia' just isn't that comforting when contrasted with what is going on in the real world, the AWB platform statements, Holder's AWB statements, the latest Brady propaganda, HR45, the constant AWB proposals, etc.

There is nothing enjoyable about that at all, at least until each intrusive bill goes nowhere. And if they do, THEN I WILL enjoy saying how right you were after all, and that I was wrong!

10. There has been a frenzy..
... in the gun community over Obama's supposed intention to iimplement all sorts of gun bans.

I think the chances of that happening are in the 0.1% range, but these idiots are convinced it's going to happen.

A lot of this fear is whipped up by the gun sellers who love the extra business they get when people stock up out of fear. It will die down in a year or two when most folks realize they've been had.

12. Not only that, but there is a Depression like atmosphere out in America.
Some people are just feeling a bit safer with a gun around. I'm assuming these two factors are correlating together.. Most just assume that its all about Obama because the nut bags are stocking up and bragging about it. but I do know a few people who have decided to get a weapon for protection. Home robberies are up big time; especially in the most devastated cities and towns.

What am I to think when the our platform supports reauthorizing the AWB, our President Elect campaigned on supporting the AWB, and we have both houses where some of its most powerful leaders co/sponsored AWB legislation?

Am I to think they were merely joking, liars, or have they changed their minds without telling anyone?

13. he`s not going to worry about people who have legally owned guns
what his problem is the people who sell and use ak-47 on the streets of of country. the gangs who buy handguns and assault rifles through legitimate gun dealers who look the other way. gun shows where anything can be purchased without background checks.

any responsible gun owner should`t be upset with the idea that those who should`t have guns should`t be allowed to purchase or own them.

...but, I can speak for myself only, I am often busy fight gun control that serves to restrict my legal ownership of firearms. The socalled Assault Weapons Ban is a good example. It serves to keep semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols with certain configuratins out of the hands of law abiding folks.

42. It must have been another CHICAGO.
Not Chicago, IL right? Some other Chicago like Chicago, TX.

Hell Chicago, IL has a ban on assualt weapons AND handguns.
It also has the most expensive and complex registration system in the country.
Add to that waiting periods (instead of instant background checks), no gunshows, and no conceal carry permits.

It would be downright impossible for Chicago, IL to have a gun problem.

Must have been a "gun friendly" (or pro-rights) state like VA. Maybe Chicago, VA?

41. Did you get that spew from the Brady (Republican) talking points.
The FBI reports that ALL thats right ALL rifles make up <3% of homicides and <1% violent crimes.
Keep in mind that isn't so called "assault weapons" which are just one small portion of rifles that is ALL rifles.
Even if ALL rifles vanished off the face of the earth AND nobody switched to another weapon we could expect a <3% decline in Homicides and <1% decline in violent crime.

Of course your talking points about gun dealers and gun shows are just that... talking points from Brady Campaign.

Progressives taking talking points from Republicans. How far we have come.

Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 11:37 AM by aikoaiko
Every groups rolls its eyes at someone within their own group and opponents gets to caricaturize the entire political group as that quirky fringe.

I'm of the belief that gun owners, would be gun owners, and defenders of the 2nd Amendment are right to be concerned about more restrictions to gun ownership coming down the pike. After all we have a Democratic platform that outlines it, a Democratic president elect who campaigned on supporting it, and Democratic held houses even as they

Hopefully the massive surge in guns and ammo purchases after his election serves as a signal that signing more gun control into law could be met with resistance in the subsequent elections.

30. Target practice for fun at the range
And generic home defense.

It is a nice feeling gun and handles quite well.

I used to work in the reloading industry and we sold dies from .17 hornets to .50 bmg and even a few 20mm lahti's. I knew a lot of people who were gun hobbyists all over the world (Including the guy who wrote the book 'Unintended Consequences' - he sent me an autographed copy and the main characters in his book were take offs of my boss and his friends) and they just enjoyed the sport of shooting and the science of reloading.

Just like some people like muscle cars when all they need is a hybrid, some people like the larger guns when all they need is a 9mm.

I enjoy shooting and have done so a few times at my sister's house out in the country. My bro-in-law has a ton of guns and we line them up and skeet shoot or target shoot (he also hunts).

In the majority of hands I say most people use them for sport or hunting, while there are some who have them solely for defense or in the case of criminals offense. The few should not dictate, to me, how the many should affected by the fews' actions.

Sensible gun registration is ok with me, but I think it has it's limits. If my bro-in-law gives me one of his or sells it to me that is one thing and I don't see the need for all the fees and such, versus if someone goes to a gun store. And before someone says 'yeah, but then criminals can easily transfer guns and such' I would say they wouldn't obey the law to track their transactions anyway.

Sensible legislation versus feel good.
