Video of Hudson River landing
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2009/01/this_video_apparently_comes_from.php

It happens at 2:08 on the vid, and within seconds you can see people getting onto the wings.

Craziness.

6. possibly dumb question - why didn't they put their life jackets on?
I am assuming they did have time before the plane went down to get them from under the seats...I wonder why they didn't have them on.

I know I did see some people with them on and obviously, everyone was OK with out them but I'm just curious.

8. I saw other video which had people wearing vests
Some grabbed them, some didn't, I guess. Good way to determine who listened to the pre-flight safety talk and who didn't, eh? :)

22. If you watch the MSNBC report, they were being thrown life vests by the
ferry hands.

27. In case of water landing your sit cushion can be used as a
flotation device.

13. I remain amazed that they pulled this off. And neat to see that the first ferry got there 4 mins
after "landing". Just amazing.

15. Go to 3:10 on the video. To the right side you see
someone walking out to the end of the wing. That person slips and falls into the 36° water. Another passenger then comes over and pulls that person back onto the wing.

Amazing.

16. Here are some photos I took yesterday
The plane happens to be anchored right outside my office. This is Rockefeller Park, near the World Financial Center, across the street from the World Trade. All you can really see is the wing sticking up.

17. Good seamenship there
The Captains of those ferrys did an excellant job handling their craft. One wrong move could have dumped the passangers in the water.
Hard to tell from the video but it is apparent the ships crews were well trained in Man Over Board procedures.

18. A passenger on the first ferry was on MSNBC
A young guy, looked like a broker or something. He said the captain announced a plane was in the water and they were going to help. He said all the men went to the front of the boat and started pulling people off. He said first they had one rope and then they got two ropes and a ladder going. He said all the men were pulling people out and all the women were taking them inside and wrapping them in coats and scarves trying to warm them up. A spontaneous rescue by some crew but many ferry passengers, not trained at all. These were commuters headed to Jersey.
