Cop accidentally zaps police recruit
Taser » Probe has to be extracted from officer's face.
A Salt Lake City police officer accidentally hit a police recruit with a Taser while trying to make an arrest Wednesday.
Police were called to a 7-Eleven at 490 N. Redwood Road at about 8 a.m. Wednesday after a man presented a fraudulent check, said Salt Lake City police Detective Robin Snyder.
When officers arrived, the suspect and a man with him had left. Police drove north on Redwood Road and saw a pair of men matching their description near a Super Saver at 700 N. Redwood Road. As one officer tried to arrest the man suspected of using the bad check, the suspect fought back.
A second officer reached for his Taser. But as the officer deployed the stun gun, a police recruit bent down into the path of the Taser's probes. One probe struck the recruit in the face and the other hit the suspect.
