And if possible, some COOL sweatshop-free clothing. Anybody know? A lot of the stuff I find on the internets just isn't all that great.

1. My kids compromise by haunting the Salvation Army racks.
They figure if they buy used clothes, they make up for the sweat shop.

3. You could make your own. I make some of my own clothes.
There's no guarantee that the material, thread and notions are sweatshop free though.

4. I typed in free trade clothing and got a lot of Google listings

I loves fair trade gift shops and there seem to be quite a few.

6. Buy used
It's more environmentally friendly and even cheaper on the pocketbook. I'm amazed by how many times I find items with the tags still on them as well as lightly worn name brands that I never would have spent the dough on like LL Bean and Ann Taylor.

My family is sick of playing the game "Guess how much this cost?" About the only thing we won't buy used is socks and underwear. Heck, half my Christmas presents were thrift purchases and no one was the wiser (or just too polite to say anything.)

8. Two sites to help search for made in USA products
http://www.madeinusa.org /

http://www.americansworking.com /

Wife and I went out to lunch a couple days ago and were talking about sweat shops and cheap child labor as reasons for moving factories elsewhere. Unless we drive 25 miles to the next small town we are limited to three grocery stores, one is Walmart. Walmart is the only place to buy men's clothing in our town, with the only other spot for women's clothes is a Cato's store. Walmart is the only place for almost everything here. The next spot after the 25 mile drive is 65 miles from our house.

We're gonna start using the internet more, looking for USA products.
