Sometype of manufactured crisis to escalate things...

Bush: Hey Tony, I'm a bit occupied over here-things are unravelling. Can you send some of your brave soldiers into Iranian waters accidentally.
Blair: No problem.
Bush: Thanks, I've got to get back to dealing with these here Defeatocrats.

5. Seeing that the President of Iran is due here Friday, does it
seem likely that Iran would provoke some kind of an incident now? Me thinks it stinks

British Army Storms Basra Jail to Free 2 Soldiers From Arrest
By SABRINA TAVERNISE

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Sept. 19 - Two British soldiers working under cover were arrested Monday in the southern city of Basra and then freed as a British armored vehicle blasted through the wall of their jail after an angry crowd began rioting outside, an Interior Ministry official said.

The official said that the soldiers were undercover officers dressed as Iraqis and that Iraqi police officers had arrested them after the men fired at a traffic police officer.

10. I don't think the Brits are interested in war with Iran...
Blair isn't going to get in to another war when he will be leaving office in the summer.
He will never, ever get the support, the votes or anything but damned by the media here. There concern about weapons is there but the UK will erupt if the undergo a third war.
It maybe a ruse by the US to keep us in Iraq but the if these men are hurt in anyway, it will make the call to withdraw louder. This country is still furious that one of ours was killed by an American and the evidence withheld.
The best view is the interview with their Commandant on the BBC website, he does not want to see his men in body bags.
I am hoping this will be an even that will end up highlighting good diplomacy and will not be used as a n excuse for the Americans to get involved, like the biggest bullies in the playground.

US watching fate of British sailors detained by Iran
Published: Friday March 23, 2007

The White House said Friday that some 15 British sailors held by Iran had been involved in "routine" inspections in Iraqi waters and that Washington was closely watching the situation.

"They were engaged in routine boarding operations of merchant shipping in Iraqi territorial waters," said spokesman Tony Snow. "We're keeping watch on the situation."

13. routine operations allow the U.S. navy to stop and board
any ships they feel like on the open ocean? Right? Or is that only the Coast Guard that is allowed to board vessels in international waters surrounding the United States of America?
