Thanks to all that responded. All the names were great. There was only one name that we all agreed on, putting an end to a week of debating over the dogs name. I think my son wore out my refresh button that night.

original thread:

Looking for names, adopted a female St. Bernard Great Pyrenees mix

Mods I know I posted the original thread in the wrong forum, if you could leave this in General Discussion for a bit so that the people who responded to the original thread has a chance to see the name before bumping it to the DU lounge. Thank you.

17. The white on the end
is a puppy-mark. Most puppies have a white tip that they lose pretty soon. It helps their mama spot them.

Sierra's a wonderful name! What a cute baby!!

(I'm a sucker for puppies... and they know it.)

7. Sorry for the pedantry, but considering that the Pyrenees extend into Spain,
"Sierra" is completely appropriate. As much as I like to think that our Sierra is the only one (and I certainly think it's the most important), apparently the word applies to other places as well...

9. It means mountain,
as in the Sierra Mountains. It also means "saw".

10. The name is also associated with environmental concerns due to the Sierra Club
The girl's name Sierra \si(er)-ra\ is pronounced see-ERR-ah. It is of Spanish origin, and its meaning is "saw". Place name for the western mountains. Other geographical names are Savannah and Mesa. The name is also associated with environmental concerns due to the Sierra Club.

11. That's what I mean - "Sierra" is appropriate considering that the Pyrenees
extend into Spain. Of course, if that was your point all along, then I'll apologize for being such a humorless clod... :)
