Will Obama give the Bush Administration a pass on their crimes?
Like Clinton did with Iran-Contra vis-a-vis the last Bush criminal administration?

9. True - the law must be enforced, there is no more "confusion" on if it is torture.
I expect nothing less than full prosecution of any laws broken.

Any less than that and we will know there are those above the law in this country. I expect rule of law from a non-corrupt administration and if I do not get it then I will know they are also corrupt and no charges of "poutrage" against such a judgment will make it any less true.

2. I'm not holding my breath -
based on past statements and the like, but if he does, I'll be the first to pass around lollipops. :-)

3. I think he's playing a bit of a game.
He says he's looking forward, but it's obvious with everything coming out that he has people pushing this issue behind the scenes. He won't be the fall guy for it going down, but he'll support the measure that these people broke the law, and let the others do the work. Basically keeping himself from looking like a politicized factor in it. Which I think is playing smart.

4. My hope
Is that he has kept it as quiet as possible in order to try to keep the crooks from pardoning each other then maybe after he is sworn in and * no longer has the authority to do anything he will get it going (dreaming? Probably, but still hoping)

At most there will be some congressional hearings but they will come to nothing. Maybe if we are real lucky they will censor Bush and Co.

6. from all the soundbites that have happened already
it AIN'T gonna happen. There will be plenty of clean-up, just like Clinton did.

10. So when the the next Bush (Jeb?) steals the office of POTUS....
we can look forward to a new and improved republican/fascist regime that has learned its lessons from the last Bush disaster that wasn't prosecuted by the last Democratic administration to hold office......

I really hate to piss on the Obama parade before it gets started but there is damn little evidence that shows me otherwise....

I think he'll let it go in favor of keeping congress' eyes on saving us economically. The power grabbed by Bushco is more likely to be reversed for future POS assholes selected to the office by judicial decision and congressional legislation more than criminal prosecution. IMHO

That said, Obama has surprised me before in his intelligent sceaming for the good of this country.

15. That's Not Obama's Job...It's Up To Those Who Were Wronged
There are plenty of victims and here's hoping the slimebags of the booosh regime never sleep a solid night for the rest of their wretched lives fearing yet another law suit or court case.

I also hope a rejuvenated Justice Department...who was very, very wronged...gets some sweet revenge; going after those who abused their position and politicized the department.

Then...I am hopeful that there's a world reaction...a call for an international tribunal into the pillage of Iraq. This has ZERO to do with the U.S. (other than us handing over those indicted)...it's a world matter now. Torture or dealing with other war crimes is beyond what our justice system can really deal with.

The length and scope of the crime committed over the past 8 years pale to anything in the Poppy Booooosh years and there are too many of us out here who not only won't forget, we want and are demanding justice. Any attempts to ignore the truths or those calling for that justice will only make our voices louder.

I'm more concerned with President Obama taking care of fixing the country...and then helping us move forward.

16. How do people who have their rights removed do it?
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 11:21 PM by mmonk
By the way, count yourself in that because you aren't currently protected with all the rights guaranteed you by the constitution and the Bill of Rights.

20. Let's Restore Rule Of Law
I see many who are incarcerated in Gitmo having some real solid cases and a lawyers ready to present their cases. As more evidence comes to light of this regimes criminality, so will other suits and criminal cases...for example, the various DOJ nominees who were "Goodlinged" out, there's a case pending there that is sure to have a lot of legs moving forward...as is David Iglesias and other Prosecutors who were wrongly fired...not to mention the Siegleman case. And that's just one aspect of this regime's abuses.

Right now, we don't have a functioning Constitution...the goal of this Administration (and ours as well) is to demand a return of judicial independence and for Congress to restore its authority as well. None of us are protected...cause, sadly, too many Americans didn't think our rights were endangered. Now many do.

At least I'm trying to be optimistic...

Cheers...

17. I think that it depends on us. We have to demand justice more loudly
than the MSM demands whatever they want.

18. I'm afraid they'll work to dig up the evidence, but then not prosecute.
Instead, they'll make backroom deals to win political concessions from the GOP. The country needs justice and transparency, not more backroom deals.

This is all hypothetical, of course.
