Palin bristles as JKF's daughter glides towards Senate
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 05:57 AM by bottomtheweaver
From The Sunday (London) Times
January 18, 2009

AFTER weeks of intensive lobbying, Caroline Kennedy will learn this week whether she will be selected to replace Hillary Clinton in the US Senate – much to the disgust of other formidable women politicians who found the path to political prominence far rockier.

Sarah Palin, the much-mocked governor of Alaska and former Republican vice-presidential candidate, has already taken a swipe at the media fuss over the daughter of President John F Kennedy, and her seemingly effortless attempt to enter the US Senate without a bothersome election.

“I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled,” said Palin, who endured months of withering scrutiny after John McCain unexpectedly chose her as his running mate last year. Palin wondered if there was a “class issue” involved in the comparative treatments of the heir to the Kennedy Camelot legend and an upstart housewife from Wasilla, Alaska.

Carolyn Maloney, a popular New York congresswoman, also suggested last week that what her state needed was not a glamorous political name, but someone with the experience and Washington contacts to “confront this fiscal crisis and bring the resources the state so desperately needs”.

Throwing her own hat in the ring, she added: “Maloney is not a well-known name. My father was not a rich and famous person. But I am a hard-working woman. This should be a selection on merit.”

1. And anyone cares? If the woman had a brain, then perhaps she'd be relevant.
But she is neither intellectual nor curious about the world. She is a selfish spot-light grabber. Anything to see her narcissitic name highlighted in a paper or on the t.v. She does not care how she appears, only that she appears.

3. Remember the movie To Die For?
It was based on a true story - but the more Palin sticks around . . . the more I'm convinced she's channeling Nicole Kidman's character.

5. There is a big difference between Senator and VP
If she ran for Senator, she wouldn't have been under such a microscope either. But for being a hearbeat away from being the President of the United States when the President would have been an old man who has had recurring bouts of melanoma, it is a different story. I wouldn't agree with Caroline Kennedy being chosen for such a spot either. If you don't understand the difference Sarah, you just don't get it.

13. That's what I don't get. This is an appointment to a Senate seat, not the
next leader of the free world, potentially. But in Palin's narcissistic, empty little head, it has something to do with her.

7. This one is even better
http://www.glossynews.com/artman/publish/palin-still-in-the-media-1488.shtml
<snip>
One-time underdog beauty pageant contestant and VP candidate Sarah Palin had a rocky, some might rightly say unfair, relationship with the media during her short-lived aspiration to the second-highest office in the land. Instead of simply promoting herself, she's picking at fresh scabs earned in battle against the media, mainstream and otherwise, seemingly unaware that the media still holds the same worldwide sway they did during her storied run, and that they still don't much care for her or her unusual antics.

Traditionally, once a candidate has been counted out, they show the common courtesy of going away and letting the nation proceed without them, but Alaska Governor Sarah Palin chose instead to kick her personal profile to the next level. There have already been a number of easily located websites suggesting a Palin 2012 run for office, and the countless interviews on television show she has no intention of leaving the limelight just yet.

From the very minute the presidential race was over, it was evident she wasn't ready to give up her rock star lifestyle. As ABC reported: "Palin left… in a motorcade stretching more than a dozen vehicles, flanked by a dozen more cops on motorcycles… joined by some 18 family members and friends who had made the trip from Alaska to Phoenix to watch Election Night returns."

It was also mentioned in the same article that, "John McCain drove himself in his own gold Toyota Sequoia SUV."

Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 09:47 AM by galaxy21
A lot of reporters didn't like that the whole thing reeked of nepostim and did give her a tough time, particularly over her 'you knows' she took quite a hit in the polls because of it. So, it's unfair to say she hasn't had any negative attention.

17. Well, she got elected , not appointed, in fairness. Mainly by screwing people over.
If you take a good look at Palin, she has made a career out of making freinds, and then turning on them.
