1. In many cases, Yoko has licensed the use of his recordings and used the proceeeds...
...for charity.

3. I thought that Michael Jackson
had the rights to all his music which is why we're hearing Lennon/McCartney songs on so many commercials. I hear the little freak is almost broke.

4. Just the music (sheet, etc), not the actual recordings...
He bought the Maclen catalogue, but the recordings still belong to the Beatles, themselves.

2. Then you won't want to read this:

The key point being, his son said he at least tried to overcome his ways. (Doesn't condone what he did while preaching the exact opposite.)

9. I've read the same things about Lennon. What he preached and who he was did not line up.
People have difficulty when it turns out their gods had feet of clay. With Lennon it was much more than his feet. Had he not been murdered I am sure his lifestyle would have killed him before now because we have seen it happen before with music legends.

13. Lennon had cleaned up quite a bit before he was murdered.
I think your conclusions are way off base.

15. No, I don't think they are off base at all.
I have read that much of Lennon's being a househusband and caring for Sean consisted of him being stoned and laying on the couch or bed.

18. If being "stoned" and"laying on the couch"
killed people, who's buying all the Twinkies? Heroine kills, speed kills, getting stoned just kills a few brain cells.

21. Really? So excessive alcohol consumption does not kill? Wow! I never knew that.
Especially when the PR was that he was this dedicated househusband who was caring for his son.

22. Wow. Why does this matter so much to you?
By being stoned I meant smoking pot. No one dies from that. Now you have a nice day.

11. I am more pissed about lazy advertisers
While it's all good and fine if an artist wants to sell his/her composition to some company selling stuff, I fault the advertising firms that think it's perfectly awesome to reduce much-beloved songs and artists to 30-second earworms. To me, it's a cheesy way to sell a product.

16. That's exactly where the blame belongs.
Unfortunately, we can't trust advertisers to look out for aesthetics. They'll do whatever will work for their product, without regard for anything else.

17. since most ads are in the 30-second range- what would you suggest?
obviously the people who wrote/own the music don't seem to have any problem with it. the reason they wrote the songs in the first place was to make money, anyway.

it's kind of silly to blame the advertisers and not the musicians who give them license to do what they wish with the tunes they wrote.

actually it's silly to "blame" anyone.

8. I Guess Yoko Must Have Invested With Madoff
I sure hope the tune they chose wasn't "Woman Is The Nigger Of The World"...not good marketing.
