Hissyspit Goes To Today's March To The White House And Shoe-Throwing Protest PHOTOS
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 04:33 PM by Hissyspit
Protests calling for the prosecution of Bush Administration criminals and in support of shoe-thrower Muntadar al-Zeidi held a rally today at Dupont Circle up from the White House. Speakers included DU's David Swanson, Col. Ann Wright, and Adam Kokesh of Iraq Vets Against The War. The rally gathered a lot of attention from inauguration passerbyers, especially those at the parade bleacher set-up when the march reached the White House. At the rally Swanson said "John Adams said he was going to give us the rule of law and not the rule of men. The opposite of the rule of low is the rule of plutocrats and thugs... Prosecution is in the air much more so than impeachment ever was..." On moving forward, he said: "All crimes that have ever prosecuted took place in the past." It's on to the swearing-in ceremony for me tomorrow!

Anyone could toss shoes at the giant inflated Bushnocchio...

Folks signed a giant Constitution sponsored by the Backbone Campaign...

Medea Benjamin and Code Pink ladies...

Col. Ann Wright: "We want their asses held accountable..."

Adam Kokesh shows the combat boots he will toss at Bush in The White House...

The kids enjoyed taking a toss at the Bush balloon...

A D.C. cop stopped long enough to get a picture of the shoe-tossing at Dupont Circle...

The march down Constitution Avenue to the White House begins. The George Bush-head in prisoner garb and manacles leads the way...

Employees and others are taken by surprise by the march and yells of "War Crimes!" and "Bush and Cheney! Prosecute!..."

Police escort for the non-permit march...

The "Arrest Bush" banner..

Inaugural sightseers surprised by the march. Some yelled out in approval of the message. Most took pictures...

The shoe throwing at The White House commences!

All those shoes represent the failures of Bush, just lying there, spent.

What happened to her?

Hey Hissy, say hi to Mike and Bruce for me. They are the guys at each end of the banner. Tell them you are my friend. They are both great guys.

I got to meet Medea for the first time and David Swanson, too. Thought I had a picture of him, but forgot to take it while we were talking. I don't know what was up with Col. Wright's nose.

9. When we were there in March for the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq
We watched the cops try to keep a group from marching down the middle of the street. They finally just shrugged and backed off. It was pretty funny.

59. I'm so there! Was the Shoe Throw in Dupont Circle near the saging event?
Edited on Tue Jan-20-09 02:04 AM by calimary
I heard a woman on Rachel Maddow's show late last week talk about a saging that was happening there - the ceremonial burning of sage to drive away evil spirits - in this case, from the White House. They evidently got the idea from the tribesmen in Machu Picchu where the bushes visited and were seen in news footage - dancing on a stage-like setting with the tribal elders. A couple of days after the bushes left, the tribe got together and staged a ceremonial burning of sage (a "saging") to cleanse the area of the evil spirits left by bush.

I may burn some sage tonight, myself!

YESSSS! Just saw this Hissyspit thread:

There are so many people, worldwide even! who can sense the bad vibes from him...and conversely, SOOOO many who can sense the light, good, positive --however you want to call it---- from Obama. Actually, it makes me wonder what is going on with steadfast RWers. How can anyone be so unable to sense the difference between dark and light??

21. Small point
You marched down Connecticut Ave, not Constitution Ave. I recognize the second pic of the march, and I recognize it. Constitution Ave is on the South side of the White House, so you would have had to pass the White House to get there. Plus, I recognize that corner. I worked a few blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro station for a while.

Good on you Hissyspit, you are providing a great pictorial with your pics from yesterday and today. Have a beer on me tonight.

26. "Shoe-throwing became a fad after an Iraqi journalist caught worldwide attention.."
Washington notebook: One final round of shoe-throwing
by Bob Braun/Star-Ledger columnist
Monday January 19, 2009, 4:06 PM
Inaugural celebrations come in all forms -- including the chance to throw a shoe at an effigy of outgoing President Bush.

At the park on DuPont circle today, an organization called "Arrest Bush" erected a 25-foot balloon figure purporting to be Bush and attached a sign urging passers-by to throw shoes at it. The organization supplied the old shoes.Shoe-throwing became a fad after an Iraqi journalist caught worldwide attention by tossing his two shoes at Bush during a press conference in Baghdad.

...``It just makes me feel good to do it,'' said Carla Adele, 58, who said she was from Gary, Ind. She tossed an old pair of tethered sneakers at the balloon, trying to catch them on its large nose.

and yet the march gets a POLICE ESCORT...even one without a permit and obviously in trafic.

:applause:

I LOVE IT!
Wish I could be there too! please throw a couple extra shoes for us here in CA!

This is a sign of the times, we are no longer going to stand idly by, President Obama (i love saying that!)
called upon us to "get involbved" with the workings of our country. We need to let him know we will NOT rest until this constitution-shredding chimp has been held accountable (preferably by way of a waterboard)

again, thanks Hissyspit!
