Cornyn Threatens To Hold Up Hillary Nomination Over Foundation
Foundation concerns could delay Clinton confirmation

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Sen. John Cornyn may hold up the nomination of Hillary Clinton to become secretary of state if his concerns about foreign donations to her husband's foundation are not resolved, a spokesman for the Texas senator said Monday.

"Senator Cornyn is a strong proponent of complete transparency and has fought for as much throughout his time in office. He is keeping all of his options on the table," said his spokesman Kevin McLaughlin in an email reply to Reuters, when asked if Cornyn could block Clinton's nomination.

Democratic lawmakers had hoped to approve President-elect Barack Obama's proposed Cabinet of top advisers within hours or days of his inauguration at noon Tuesday, but Cornyn's objections could stall approval of Clinton for the top U.S. diplomatic job by one or two days.

Cornyn sent Clinton a letter Friday congratulating her on her nomination, but reiterating his belief that the foundation headed by former President Bill Clinton, should refuse all pledges and donations from foreign sources during his wife's tenure as secretary of state.

"Like many others, I remain deeply troubled that America's foreign policy and your diplomatic mission will be encumbered by the sweeping global activities of the Clinton Foundation unless tighter foreign fundraising restrictions and transparency protocols are adopted," he said.

2. At some point, dems need to use the majority they have . . .
And politely, using different language, tell putzes like Cornyn to go fuck themselves. Cornyn doesn't have the votes to prevent cloture.

14. Really? Which Republicans Are Going to Vote With Us?
How do we have enough votes for cloture?

Lieberman would vote with the Republicans on this,
and the Minnesota race is still in the courts.

That leaves us 2 votes short.

Which Republicans are going to vote with us on this?

18. Given their restrained behavior last week, I'd say most of them . . .
I suppose they're stupid enough to go nuclear on this early issue, but I don't really think so.

And have you heard something I haven't about Leiberman?

15. Me, too.
Among the reasons I was happy with this year's elections was the chance to vote for a Hussein and a Noriega here in Texas, flipping off both Bushes at the same time. Too bad Rick didn't get in.

9. All he can do is threaten......
....because he has no teeth to do anything about anything. Personally, I would escort his ass straight to the basement in the capital and show him his new meeting room. Then, I would have the electricity turned off and make the son of a bitch use flashlights or candles. He's gonna find out what Karma is.....all the republicans are! paybacks a bitch, but they shoulda thought about that eight years ago!

6. Step 1. Hillary calls him. If that doesn't work, Step 2. President Obama calls...
... and if Cornyn still wants to be an asshole, step 3. RAHM!!!!!

He'll shut that pathetic p.o.s. up fast enough, and bring him to heel.

7. Cornyn is for COMPLETE TRANSPARENCY except when it involves Bushes. Guess what Corny?
You'll find the same global powermongers examining Bill's dealings that you'll find by examining GHWBush's dealings.

No Republican Bushwhore REALLY wants ALL of Bill's dealings to be transparent because they are no different than Poppy Bush's.

17. Heard at Cornym's Senate Office
"Senator, the Vice President and the White House Chief of Staff are here to discuss your proposed filibuster of the President's nominee for Secretary of State. I think they brought steak knives with them."

20. Bring It On...
He doesn't have the votes, period. Just a big mouth a some box turtles. Nothing more.

Remember, this fukwad now heads the RSCC and needs lots of wingnut money for 2010...nothing gets those checks mailed in faster than a good round of Clinton bashing.

25. And that's all it is...
It's just his usual political posturing and since he can't posture himself for Baby Bush now he has to posture himself against the Clintons. Never mind one of the Clintons is also a Baby Bush. But the Republicans see the photos of Daddy Bush and Bill Clinton and apparently think that's Marvin or Neil with Daddy Bush. Apparently that's what some Democrats think as well. The lines really have gotten blurred with the Bushes and the Clintons. As for Cornyn, he's just blurred.
