Poll question: Help DemoTex pick a new name!
I am a Democrat (Demo) but I have been gone from Texas (Tex) for five years. Time for a new handle. Choices 1-3 have to do with Jack Kerouac works. Choice 4 alludes to the highest peak in Viet Nam. Choice 5 was my dear departed dog who I trained to poop on Dick Cheney's lawn in Highland Park (Dallas), Tx. (don't let your choice be clouded by your hatred of Dick Cheney). I lean to Hozomeen.

3. I might not know you if you aren't DemoTex.
And I may not talk to you a lot, but some of your threads were the first I bookmarked after joining DU.

I know it is time for change, but I'm not voting. You can be whomever you want, and go by the name of your choice. All of them look good to me.

Unless you want to rename yourself after a certain fellow airline pilot.

11. No.
Sully would have started the year I left.

But I can recall an emergency landing that Allegheny had, somewhere in West Virginia. A convair, and I knew the captain slightly (Bob Raines). He, like every pilot everywhere did a masterful job of setting down the plane (I think the landing gear hadn't deployed, but I'm vague on the details given how long ago it was) and the passengers were full of praise for him. I have never been at the controls of an airplane, so I know I have no idea what's involved, but I'm constantly in awe of what the men on women in the cockpit accomplish.

Did you hear Garrison Keillor's song about the flight? Here's a link:
http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/www_publicradio/tools/media_player/popup.php?name=phc/2009/01/17/phc_20090117_64&starttime=00:15:13.0&endtime=00:18:15.0

You'll have to click on the link, and there will be a five second plug to give money, but listen. It's wonderful and names the entire crew as they all deserve.

14. There should be a song to Scott S_______ and crew too.
He saved the B-737-400 in Florida after the seagull encounter about ten years ago (I'll fine tune that .. got a call in to Scott).

15. Oh my goodness!
A seagull did that?

I'm beginning to be amazed that more airplanes don't fall out of the sky from various inflight encounters.

Someday we will have to get together and do the airline employee thing of discussing accidents.

16. Are you sure you wanna change it? "DemoTex" sounds like something
you would use to blow up a bridge. Pretty bad-ass. "Sgt Rock Rumble used the stub of his cigar to light the fuse to the five pound block of DemoTex strapped to the bridge's central support truss..."

Pushes me to stay DemoTex. I have no greater respect for anyone at DU (anyone!) than I have for Johnyawl (et. ux.). Great to hear from you sir. But if I do change, you and Gen will know why.

20. How about changing your name to DemoMac..

or TreeTopFlyer.

or CaptMac

That way I'd still recognize you.

I love your flight stories, and am looking forward to hearing more about Capt. Scully and the Hudson River landing. I read an article that said he was rated for just about everything BUT float plane. They should give him a meritorious rating for that!

22. Why don't you use your pilot status in your name? Those other names
sort of lose it for those who know you...and your posts here. But, perhaps you want to go totally anonymous so that those of us who remember you don't remember you, anymore?

23. Why not use Mac, Mac
I use my name. Hell, I'm even thinking of dropping the 50 (DU fuzzy logic named me as Wiley was in use)
and using my real last name. At this point my ID isn't worth stealing and the goons are gone.

24. Since the time we started exchanging thoughts on DU...
I have gotten hazier on translating old DU names to new ones. While I get the need to drop the Tex part of the nic (per the long time no longer a resident of the state), either select a near nic (aren't you in NC now or is it SC - make it DemoNC or such) - or keep a sig line for quite some time that indicates the name change.

Heck - you even posted about better Prius driving - and the advice you were given (to let the car teach you how to get better fuel efficiency) and when I high fived the advice ... you had to remind me (per how hazy my memory is getting) that I was the person who gave you the advice in the first place!

Regardless of how you change your nic on DU - I have long greatly appreciated you. Just help me keep track for a little while at least that you changed your DUname (I am not *that* old, but feel it when I make such a request.)
