Show of hands .... who still opposes prosecuting the motherfuckers?
Whether for pure political expedience or some other reason, if you oppose prosecuting these criminals who we just swept out of DC, state your name and reason.

1. Who are you to demand that of people?
People have a right to their opinions and to their privacy. If they wish to make their views known they can do so. I support an investigation and charges where warranted. I don't support some kind of witch hunt here at DU for members who may or may not agree with me and neither should you.

Where is the demand? He has just as much right to ask the question as you do to refuse to answer.

GAWD I am so fucking tired of outrage over nothing!!

3. luvspeas opposes....
Because that moron Pelosi should have done it while they were all fiddling while Rome burned to the ground. Doing it now will create a three-ring circus and waste all sorts of time and energy we need to un-do the mess they caused in the first place. I know I might not be right or popular saying this-hell even I feel bad saying this, but I think it's true.

11. You're not alone in being frustrated at Pelosi.
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 08:36 PM by Jackpine Radical
However, I think the criminal investigations belong to the Justice Department, and the old DOJ was complicit in the crimes. This is a job for Holder, and it should proceed in workmanlike, low-key fashion, culminating in grand juries, indictments, and trials. Those proceedings are not and never were the business of Congress, so in that sense, Pelosi is irrelevant to the whole thing.

13. Exactly
This requires no action on the part of Obama or Pelosi or anyone. Low key is key. I think people threw Congress and this other stuff about how complicated and time consuming it is, and how we need to take care of other business first, just to smoke screen. Then others got all paranoid.

You appear to be more angry at Pelosi than all of the illegal crap that Bush and his crime family were involved with. I think they all should go to jail and be Bubba's bitches for the rest of their lives

7. If we don't prosecute the offenders...
We are doomed to more offenders down the road... emboldened and empowered offenders, who grew strong and cocky watching the Chimperor get away with murder of innocents and embezzlement of our treasury.

19.  I am certain that any
.. prosecution initiated immediately would be limited in scope, and that a lot of evidence or testimony would be considered classified. I'm not into appointing a special prosecutor being appointed to look into torture, and having the end result be a couple of bad apples taking the fall, and that's the end of that. I would prefer lots of whistle-blowers coming out, hearing their stories, and seeing where it goes. I want a much broader picture of all the laws that have been broken, and I'd like to hear about them from the people who are in a position to talk straight. More than anything, I want to know the truth. I think the world should prosecute the Bush Administration for War Crimes.

27. Not if you stop to think that a prosecution could take years
You seem to be compressing it into a giant leap from "Gee, I think they broke the law" to "We go to trial next week."

That's not how it works.

So you see, your concern was allowed for - embraced - in the OP ..... yet you show outrage. Hence my original reply to you.

See?

When we do find out what these folks actually did, we'll more than likely find they broke existing laws. Heck, we can round up a few now if someone would call a grand jury together. If we don't prosecute, using a special prosecutor or whatever, then it makes no sense to just look and see what they got away with. What will they do then, make more laws that can be ignored with the same impunity?

You can only do this with the WH and the majority. We always squander that moment.

but I don't think we have to wait very long. If, within the next couple of months, nothing else is revealed then there is no choice. But..if one thing after another comes down the pike, I think it will build to a crescendo and it won't even be a choice any longer.
