does AARP have to pay for their commercials cause if they do knock it off take that money and help the people. There is NO WAY that they are legitimate if they were they could never afford that many commercials. They are on ALL stations ALL the time WTF?? Did * endorse AARP because honest to god with all the money they must spend on commercials they could cut costs and really take care of their customers.

That's where their real money comes from and how they can offer "membership" for $12.50 a year.

They have been under various investigations about how they can effectively lobby for seniors when the real interests of seniors run counter to the financial intersts of AARP-- answer: they are not really effective lobbyists.

And Humane Society commercials. I donate to these organizations so they can help animals, not so they can run ads asking for more money. You want to raise money? Sign up some volunteers to dial for dollars. Don't pay for 30 second national television spots

are like that. They spend most of their money on their own salaries, and ... soliciting more money.
W.F.Buckley said the way to ruin them is send them a check for $5.00. But then never anything else. They will spend much, even hundreds trying to get you to send in more.
I sent in a reasonable amount to one environmental group. They spend several hundred on letters, brochures, booklets, pins, offers, trying to get more out of me. They never did. I had told them by letter, don't put me on your mailing list, as this is all I will give.
They ignored that, as they thought they had a real fish on the line.

and I find your post insulting. Yes, the AARP and other major interest groups may be wasteful and/or conflicted. I won't argue that. But I'd bet that ASPCA is getting donated airtime or it's being underwritten by a donor for that specific reason. Raising awareness for animal cruelty or the environment is not an inexpensive undertaking. The right has Faux News and countless other media outlets to spew their lies and misinformation. The vast majority of nonprofits are underfunded relative to their mission and terrified of spending money on raising their visibility for precisely this reason. It's this short-sighted, knee jerk reactions that hurt good groups who are working to make the world a better place.

Besides, I'd rather see an AARP or ASPCA commercial than something promoting another "product" that is being imported from China that nobody needs and probably has lead paint in it.

the organization I work for has done more to educate the public about LGBT lives and issues than any candidate, corporation or individual. Previously, I raised money for a grassroots activist group, an academic medical center and a legal defense group. I'm very proud of what I do and you benefit every day of your life from the funds raised by people like me, whether you notice it or not. As so most people on DU.

Plus, I have the balls to ask for money for a good cause. Most people don't.
