"Simply out of place" describes most accurately the impression that Rick Warren made on me.
He didn't fit in with the crowd. He appeared like a guy who showed up to a graduation ceremony at Harvard in stained jogging pants and a sweatshirt and farted when the chairman attempted to hand out diplomas.

1. I'll never understand why he picked him, but hopefully listened to his 'prayer' and thought
I'm not taking the call when this guy calls, ever again!

he was bizarre - it seemed so outta place.

2. I remember nothing of what he said
I remember Elizabeth Alexander and say it plain, people died so this day could happen, and what if love is the most important word. I remember Rev Lowery and his little rhyme at the end. I even remember the lilt of the instrumentals, and will never forget Aretha.

Warren?? Absolutely nothing.

5. nothing memorable about his invocation
It was so uninspired and dull. I can't think of really anything that struck me as special about it. He was definitely out of place. He didn't make any effort to consider his audience when he wrote that prayer. That prayer might resonate at Saddleback Church, but not with an enthusiastic crowd waiting to hear Obama take his oath. A crowd I might note that comes from all religous traditions and lack thereof as well. I felt that all of the other parts of the ceremony were beautifully done.

3. Actually it Worked Brilliantly
. . . now the whole world knows what one of the leaders of the fundies looks like: Out of place, out of touch and plain stupid. Maybe some of the members of his own cohort might start to see that too after his appearance on national tv. Same thing for Justice Roberts a Republican appointee--now everyone wonders how a bungling idiot could get to become chief justice of the supreme court.

4. I Suspect That Was the Whole Point of the Exercise
To show the religious fascists that they had no place at the American table any longer.

The anti-choice, the racist, the sexist, the ignorant, the hateful, are all going to feel increasingly marginalized. They are going to have to put up, shut up, and grow up. They won't be tolerated any more, and their poison will not be allowed to pollute public discourse.

They lost, and they are going to have to deal with it.
