According to a paranoid gunshop owner--and in truth the guy is a friend of mine--Obama is going to close Gitmo, have trials in the U.S. in the regular court system and if they are acquitted they will be given instant citizenship. It's true, he read it in the NRA magazine. I didn't bother calling him on this because I did not know where to start and I would not have changed his mind anyway. By the way, torturing prisoners is okay because "our guys" are treated badly. And a guy who one customer knows is a Coast Guard captain and has seen Gitmo and knows the men there are vicious people.

EDIT: I almost forgot, the owner in speaking of Islam, said he did not know of any other religion that advocated violence. I responded with "all of them." I pointed out that the Old Testament has 613 commandments and the penalty of each of them is death.

It's the best gun store around. I'm always afraid I'm going to hear something there that is so bad that I could not in good conscience go back. I know the owners are among the numerous people who are creeped out by gay rights, but so far I have no reason to think they discriminate against them. I know they gave a lesbian couple the "date night" discount rate for a shooting lane rental.

The local City, County, and State Police use his range for their qualifications and such. My wife, son, and I all took our preliminary training to get our concealed carry permits there too. Going into that shop and listening to the guys who sit around there jawboning all day long is like going into a neanderthal cave. I've loved the owner like a son for 30 years but I can not stand to go into his place of business and talk to either him or the baboons that hang out there.

By the way, to some extent I guess you could call me a 'gun lover'. I own several, carry one sometimes, and use them from time to time. Did I ever tell you about the time I built a cattle rack for my truck using a .22 pistol as a portable drill to make the holes for the bolts that held it together?

9. Here in Tulsa there's a gun shop that's been running ads since Christmas

It's called Dong's, and the announcer is very loud talking about the need to buy guns now before politicians/new administration (I've heard both) takes away your rights. Their latest ad takes it into self-parody as the announcer says something like, "So come on down to Dong's, BUCKEROOS!"

But what outdoes shooting ranges IMO is gun shows. I'm not against them, but they get really packed with the most inbred, racist, paranoid nutcases in the country. It's like the evolutionary clock is automatically set back 500,000 years at the door. People at those shows literally make my skin crawl.
