Senate Backs Three-Seat Democratic Advantage on Most Committees
By Bart Jansen, CQ Staff

The Senate unanimously approved two resolutions Wednesday that ratified a three-seat advantage for Democrats on most committees while keeping open several slots awaiting the resolution of the contested Minnesota race.

The Democratic resolution for the 111th Congress (S Res 18) added one seat for that caucus to the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee from what had been announced tentatively Jan. 12. Democratic Sens. Herb Kohl of Wisconsin and Jeff Merkley of Oregon are new to the panel, and a vacancy remains.

Three Democratic vacancies on the Judiciary Committee went to Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Ted Kaufman of Delaware and Ron Wyden of Oregon.
