Saw this message on the marquee of the local Christian middle school:
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 12:55 PM by Obamarama
"Pray for our new president and new leaders."

Not bad for a nearly all white, very conservative Christian school system. I wouldn't have expected them to put up a negative message, but they could have simply chosen not to put anything up at all, as they are likely mostly wealthy, conservative Republicans who send their kids to this Christian school system. In other words, likely to be neither Obama voters, nor supporters.

Maybe there's hope after all?

3. Yeah probably he's assuming they mean
Pray for him to succeed and lead well.

Whereas what they probably really mean is "pray for his satanic liberal communist baby-killing soul to see the light of God and start hating women gays and guys with long hair like the rest of us decent godly folk."

4. Ummmmm.....not many.
This is a Christian school system whose leaders are spearheading a campaign to nix an ordinance in our city that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. I know the workings of this system pretty well, and the leadership is pretty much of the Evangelical wingnut variety.

6. You didn't say that before.
Just so you know.... when you use the word "CHRISTIAN" to mean ALL of us, you are dissing a large number of DUers, too.

There are MANY Evangelicals who are Dems, and have been for a long time.

It's really time to start understanding this.

It's isn't hard to grasp.

8. I think it was understood when I labeled it a "very conservative Christian school" what I meant
I live in the uber-conservative Western part of Michigan, which is the Evangelical, conservative Republican Christian center of the midwest. When you continually encounter people who wear their extreme form of religion on their friggin' sleeves on a daily basis, you tend to shudder when you hear the term "Christian."

That's not hard to grasp, either.

It's up to you... you decide whether you will learn to accept those who have a different belief from you, even though they have the same politics, or whether you want to hang on to your prejudices.

It's your call.

2. Good for them! That is a very Christian attitude!
During the second year of the war, I was working on LA's Westside in a swank office with a lovely view of Beverly Hills and Bel Air. There was an equally swank Christian church a block away. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large banner announcing weekly prayer meetings... "Please come and join us to pray for peace." It brought a tear to my eye.

5. A Conservative called Momma's show and said pretty much the same thing
He said he went to his church and told everyone "We need to pray that this President can fix what's wrong with this country." He was a lot better than some "liberal" who'd called about 10 minutes earlier to spout that old "the two parties are the same" crap.

7. Makes me think of Swoozie Kurtz' character in "Bubble Boy"
"I'm going to pray for you. I'M GOING TO PRAY YOU GET NUT CANCER!!"
