On the 36th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, a man smashed his SUV into the entrance of the Planned Parenthood office in St. Paul this morning.

Although staff members have gotten used to protests, particularly on the anniversary of the ruling, "we certainly don't expect this sort of thing," said Sarah Stoesz, the president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. ""It's never happened before and we don't expect it to happen again"

The man, who has refused to identify himself, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, said police spokesman Peter Panos.

"We think it's intentional because of Roe vs. Wade," Panos said. "He's not saying much. He was praying or chanting when the officers arrived."

About 7:40 a.m., the man drove onto the sidewalk in front of the office and rammed into the front door of the office on Ford Parkway. One employee was inside at the time, but was not injured, Panos said. It is the only Planned Parenthood clinic in the state that offers abortions.

10. We had one down here in Iowa a couple years ago

A right winger by the name of David Robert McMenemy decided that he was going to firebomb an abortion clinic. So he found the Edgerton Women’s Health Care Center, rammed his vehicle into the building, and attempted to start the building on fire. Fortunately the building wasn't occupied at the time, and the sprinkler system kept the fire from spreading.

The hell of it was that Edgerton's is not even an abortion clinic, and it doesn't do referrals to places that do abortions either.

McMenemy got five years and was ordered to pay about a quarter of a million dollars in restitution. That was the minimum sentence. Me, I probably would've insisted on at least ten years to show these extremists that they will be held to account for their actions.
