Limbaugh and the First Amendment.
I really, really don't like the guy. Every time I listen to him I get the same feeling I get when my dog has left a surprise for me and I find it with my foot.

I feel he is a very divisive and offensive person. I disagree with virtually all of his platitudes and "opinions" feeling that he is serving an agenda that I am not privy to.

I don't like him at all, but I draw the line at hate because I try to keep that out of my nature.

But, as an American, the only route I have to quieting his influence is through posts like this, sharing my opinions with others and other legal means. But he has the right to spew his venom and I would have to defend that. Popular opinion should never dictate the destruction of our rights as we have seen in the last eight years.

I like to think we're better than that.

Other than that, I will exercise my own First Amendment right and say, "FUCK YOU, RUSH!"

7. People that say "I am all for free speech...BUT..." are almost universally
seeking to erode the constitution, but are too mealy-mouthed to come out and admit it.

2. Rush may have the right
to voice his opinions. However there is nothing about the First Amendment that guarrantees that he is somehow entitled to voice these opinions over the airwaves.

It bothers me that this idiot has been given a platform to spew his hatred. He can believe whatever he wants. He is free to say whatever he wants just as we have the right to voice our objections to the radio stations that carry and promote him.

IMHO he contributes nothing to the debate and discourse other than hate. Why he should be paid millions to do that is beyond me.

3. rush most often reminds me of a KKK public rally i attended (out of curiousity)...
in 1991 or 1992 in Matthews, NC...and later downtown Charlotte, NC...

after both 'rallies', i became forever of the opinion to let them speak, encourage them to speak, expand the coverage of them speaking, let everyone know what they say...

they are their own worst enemies, and the more exposure, even the more acceptance (rush has the largest listenership in radio), they garner will wake many more people up to the 'message' and the active rejection of the same...

those who 'love' rush will agree with anything his says...those of us who 'hate' him are just the opposite...

it is best for those who have never been exposed to him to hear his b.s....he will gain more adversaries that he will ever garner as fans...

4. Undermining the CIC should get him off AF Radio
other than that, it's high time to start a campaign to make listening to his shit socially unacceptable.

10. Does the media have the right to lie?
We all have the right to free speech, but should the media be able to lie on the public airwaves? People assume that since they see something on TV or hear something on the radio, that it must be the truth. This is the largest part of the battle we have been fighting on the internet. Perhaps we use to have a law that prevented them from blatantly lying and Bush nixed it? Maybe there should be a law? The thing is, it is different when you are on the public airwaves you have a huge responsibility and should be held to some standards.

11. Well, there's a truth in advertising law, but it would take some wrangling
to make it apply to Rush as if you think of it, all programming on for profit airwaves is advertising.

13. The best thing I'd suggest (that's still in the spirit of the First Amendment)
is to break up the media oligopolies.

Clear Channel should be made to sell a large number of their stations. In general, most media outlets are now owned by a half-dozen companies, all of which are controlled by right-wingers who want their media outlets to dish out right wing propaganda.

Break them up!

That's well within the purview of the FCC, perfectly constitutional, and will result in a more diverse population of radio & TV stations, cable channels, newspapers, etc. and chances are many of them will want to put something on other than Rush.

14. I would love to see that.
Like any industry, we cannot allow any one to grow so large as to influence public policy.
