Leaders quit at indebted Christian college
Published: Jan. 22, 2009 at 6:06 PM

COSTA MESA, Calif., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- The acting president and board chairman of a financially troubled Christian college in California have resigned.

Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa is $42 million in debt and in danger of losing its accreditation, The Orange County Register reports. Carol Taylor, the chief academic officer, became the new acting president Saturday.

Vanguard was founded in 1920 as Southern California Bible College. It assumed its current name in 1999 when it was granted university status.

The president, Murray Dempster, left in September after being made chancellor. His departure inspired a student Facebook page, "Where in the World is 'Murdog' Murray Dempster?"

7. Thanks.."SoCa;l" I was wondering how long those Fundies who Tithe could keep up the Donations..
How long before that takes hold here in my "Southern States" part of the world where it's "Put food on table for your FAMILY" over the latest "Elvis Clone Preacher" who has built a Chrystal Palace for all to worship in....

BACK TO BASICS...and that means feeding, clothing and taking care of your children!

13. Totally unrelated.
As one who is owned by 3 indoor/outdoor cats, 3 outdoor cats, 1 guest cat and 2 fence cats, I have to say I LOVE your picture.

Sorry, carry on.

15. I love to see little cats stalking BIG cats...
They think they are big & bad:rofl:

Our biggest cat is a SISSIE.. Everytime someone comes to the front door, he runs down the hall and opens the lower door on the linen closet..and hides in it:) He has his own little "apartment" in there:)

he's so blubbery, that wne he runs fast, he uses his back legs like a rabbit, and hoppity-hop hauls ass down the hall.. He;s more fun to watch than TV:)

16. You have a drawer opener too?
My little drawer opener (Erica) likes the dishtowel drawer in the kitchen; however, if it is too full of towels she simply removes them (clean towels onto the floor) until the drawer is just the right depth, then goes to sleep (cat fur on the rest of my clean towels). Mommy ceased to be amused at that one some time ago. :eyes:

17. He opens the bottom drawer on the bathroom cabinet too
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 07:25 AM by SoCalDem
but he weighs about 25 lbs and that drawer is a teeny little drawer, so he sticks he big ole head in it, and then shuts it..walks across the hall & I hear "da-daaah" when the door on the linen closet closes behind him:)

We also have lever door handles on the bedroom doors, & he's tall enough to open them too :grr:

14. It may be contageous. Oral Roberts (I'm gonna heal ya, brother) U. is sinking, too:
Oral Roberts University Hands Out Pink Slips
The Associated Press
January 14, 2009

CBNNews.com - TULSA, Okla. - Dozens of employees at Oral Roberts University started receiving word Tuesday that they would be laid off, the evangelical school confirmed.

Last November, the school, which found itself more than $50 million in the red in 2007, announced it would lay off about 100 employees, representing roughly 10 percent of university's work force.

The school did not specify which departments would be targeted.

Employees whose positions are affected will continue to be employed by ORU for 60 days, the school said.

"You can't spend more than you're taking in," ORU interim president Ralph Fagin told the Associated Press when the layoffs were announced. "Our hope was to have a silent reorganization and just not replace a few figures here and keep our eyes on the bottom line.

"This is the last choice you want to make because we have such great employees," Fagin said.

The announcement of the layoffs came days after the school completed a separation agreement with former president Richard Roberts, who stepped down in late 2007 amid allegations he misspent school funds to live in luxury.
