My Obsessive TV Viewing Habit Has Been Cured!

Years ago I became, out of necessity, A "Daily Show" addict. Later on, I graduated to the harder stuff - "Countdown with Keith Olbermann". Then Rachel hit town. I used to wait all day for these three shows to come on - for they were the only fixes that worked to temporarily relieve the horrible pain of living under Bushism.

But since January 20th something has changed. Oh, Jon is just as funny; Keith just as biting; Rachel just as literate. But I find I no longer need them. I can miss episodes without suffering any withdrawal symptoms! I must confess, I no longer even need my daily dose of DU! The monkeys are off my back!

Now, I'm not certain this is an altogether good thing. If this becomes a widespread phenomenon, audience numbers might drop precipitously. Wouldn't want that to happen.

I do know this: Jon, Keith and Rachel each deserve to be awarded the Medal of Freedom.

1. I'm SO with you there! I'm still DVR'ing all three for the time being

but I'm at the point where, if I forget to set the machine
in the morning, I'm not going to be afraid I missed some
big revelation of another misdeed by the Cabal ... I can
relax and LIVE MY LIFE AGAIN -- there's adult supervision
in D.C. once more!

3. I'm checking out fewer political websites

And I'm no longer rabidly reading the Times and the Post. I skimmed them the last few days, and I watch "Hardball" and "Countdown" and Rachel - always Rachel - but I won't feel like an amputee if I miss any or all of them.

The whole world has changed. We're in good hands now.

I'm not afraid any more.

4. This has been the case with me and the Daily Show

I hadn't really thought of it until I read your post.

For years, I watched the Daily Show every single day. I had to in order to decompress and laugh at all the news that had made me cry earlier in the day.

Now, when I'm on DU and I see a reference to the show, I keep thinking, "Oh, I forgot to watch it, again."

I do miss seeing Stewart and CO so I'll have to tune in, it's just been that I didn't NEED it anymore.

5. Definitely wholeheartedly agree about the Medal of Freedom thing

Or at least the Medal of Sanity.

And while I agree about the monkey having climbed off the back, I still want to spend some of the good times with my old buddies who helped keep me sane through the trying times.

There must be some sort of, I don't know, syndrome for people like us. I've kept watching my shows, but now it's more out of loyalty than need. My hubby even mentioned that I don't watch TV as much.

Even Nixon and Reagan never affected me the way Bush and Cheney did. I didn't trust or like Nixon or Reagan, but they had some concept of limitation by law and tradition. They weren't asshats with no respect for anything.

I consider Bush and Cheney the worst Pres/VP in the history of the country, two criminals who lacked any sense of any of the things that have made this country a world leader.

I don't know how Obama will be, but even if he's merely competent, he'll be lightyears advanced beyond the past eight years.
