Paterson should appoint Michael Moore
He's a New Yorker, has been politically active for decades and would with Al Franken tag team those Republican nannygoats into submission!

Why doesn't New York choose him for the Senate? After all, the Caroline Kennedy idea was a dud just as I thought it would be. Crap, have we not learned anything about scions from deadwood in the last few years?

4. From there, but he's lived in NYC for twenty years.
Then again, HRC was from Chicago, and RFK was from, well, you know.

2. Because Patterson only cared about getting more upstate votes
That, from what I've seen, was the main rationale for the person he did choose.

I'm hoping she proves me wrong.

7. if by she you mean caroline k. she's bowed out of the race
which is probably a good thing. The idea of appointing someone for her "royal" family connections never did sit well with me.

11. No, I mean the upstate congresswoman that Patterson did choose.
Not "Caroline K", as you call her.

6. Born their, raised there, but a NY state resident now, as far as I know.
I don't think it's possible to maintain Michigan residency and live in New York for twenty years.

If he was still from there, Moore would be the natural successor to Carl Levin.

10. Michael Moore lies in Antrim County Mi which is near Traverse City. He could however replace
replace Debbie Stabenow. Now that would be cool.

I think you meant "Michael Moore LIVES in Antrim Country..."

Or at least I hope so.

16. Why do people on DU not like Debbie?
I like her. Her voting record is pretty good: no on the Iraq war, no on FISA, no on Roberts and Alito, no on the failed financial bailout. Are there certain votes/opinions that I'm missing which makes people oppose her?

21. I don't think it's a matter of dislike
and there's more than the bankruptcy bill involved. We can do better than Debbie. We can certainly do a lot worse too, but...

I don't want to position myself as Stabenow's Nemesis. But with a little bit of research one might see some very disappointing votes from our Debbie.

22. I probably should've used the word oppose rather than dislike
Yes, she may have had disappointing votes...everyone has. She voted against the Iraq war, something only 23 Senators had to guts to do. That one vote, for me, can make up for other poor votes. It seems everyone on DU can forgive Obama for awful votes (FISA) or poor decisions (Rev. Warren) but they'll fervently oppose anyone else who made votes they disagree with. Should we oppose Obama in 2012 because of his FISA vote? Debbie may not be perfect and maybe there is a candidate that may be better but I think she has been a pretty good Senator.

23. Okay, let's talk about this a minute.
To put your quesion in a nutshell (correct if I'm wrong): 'Should we vote against Barack and/or Debbie based on their "disappointing" votes?'

Here's what I'm saying: The only way I vote against either of them is if there is a chance of improvement.

You said It seems everyone on DU can forgive Obama for awful votes (FISA) or poor decisions (Rev. Warren) but they'll fervently oppose anyone else who made votes they disagree with."

'Everyone'? That is a bit of a stereotype, no? No, don't worry, I won't labor that point.

Re: Debbie's 'disappointing' votes. check these out. They are *very* disappointing to say the least.

Will they move me to help a Repiglican replace her? Not on your life. BUT: check them out. They are not pretty. I'm just sayin'.

There might be more, but again: I don't want to be her self-appointed nemesis. I just think that this stuff should be noticed, and Debbie shouldn't be voting that way.

Maybe I'm wrong.

24. Ok...
You had my question correct. You seemed to be in favor of Michael Moore take over for Stabenow. A primary challenge is a big deal and should be used if necessary (i.e. Pelosi and Reid in 2010). If there was a primary challenge for Debbie and I liked the other person better, I would have no problem voting them. I, however, don't think Stabenow's voting record is so bad that she deserves a primary challenge. Like I said, when it came to the most important vote in recent history (Iraq war), she made the correct vote (something she doesn't seem to get credit for).

Yes, obviously "everyone" is an exaggeration. But there have been numerous posts about "Stop attacking Obama" on DU. My point was he gets pass when he is wrong but others don't. I plan to criticize anyone (whether it's Obama or Stabenow) if I disagree with them.

I had forgotten about the flag burning amendment (thanks for the reminder). That "issue" is so dumb and I have no idea why she supported that (even Lieberman voted no!). The torture bill is the one vote I've always been most upset with Stabenow about and that's the vote I had in mind when I said "disappointing votes."

Michigan has a lot of problems and I think Stabenow is the least of them. I think holding the Governorship and winning the state senate is more important.

And no, you're not wrong. Debbie has made some bad votes and should be called on them. She's also made some great votes and should be given credit for those too :)
