History will show that George W Bush was right - email I received
I got this from my pet rw nut....

History will show that George W Bush was right By Andrew Roberts

The American lady who called to see if I would appear on her radio programme was specific. "We're setting up a debate," she said sweetly, "and we want to know from your perspective as a historian whether George W Bush was the worst president of the 20th century, or might he be the worst president in American history?"

"I think he's a good president," I told her, which seemed to dumbfound her, and wreck my chances of appearing on her show.

In the avalanche of abuse and ridicule that we are witnessing in the media assessments of President Bush's legacy, there are factors that need to be borne in mind if we are to come to a judgment that is not warped by the kind of partisan hysteria that has characterised this issue on both sides of the Atlantic.

The first is that history, by looking at the key facts rather than being distracted by the loud ambient noise of the
24-hour news cycle, will probably hand down a far more positive judgment on Mr Bush's presidency than the immediate, knee-jerk loathing of the American and European elites. ..................and it continues on............

4. Right
I'm surprised no one caught that in the comments section of the article. (Although, he was probably the worst president ever, so that would include the 20th century.)

2. The Columbus Dispatch runs a pro-bush LTTE almost every day.
Just for chuckles, here's today's...

Bush handled office with class, dignity
(Columbus Dispatch, January 23, 2009)

Although I realize I am in the minority, I want to express my admiration of, and appreciation for, President George W. Bush. Though I haven't always agreed with his policy decisions (the bailout being one of them), I have found him to be a leader of great integrity and honor. He is a leader who speaks the truth and is willing to make the tough decisions, even when they're not popular.

Bush has been the recipient of nothing less than visceral hatred, yet he's handled the situation with class and honor. Though they are political rivals, President Bush graciously treated President Barack Obama and his family to a visit at the White House and offered whatever assistance he might be able to provide. What class.

Bush has my utmost respect. Regardless of what the mainstream media say, he will be greatly missed.

REBECCA LUSIGNOLO-MCGLONE
Columbus

Usually, this sort of Hannityish nonsense comes from individuals from tiny towns in the Columbus hinterland. I guess Rebecca must live in an unenlightened part of Columbus itself. Note to Rebecca: The smooth transition to a real president does not make up for bush's crimes and abuse of power during his wretched, God-forsaken presidency. He. Was. Awful.

7. Same with the Plain Squealer:
http://blog.cleveland.com/letters/2009/01/media_and_voters_have_been_dup.html#more

Now that this media-produced charade is over -- and thankfully so for the millions of Americans who didn't vote for Barack Obama and are about as tired as we can be of this nonsense -- can we get to all the promises he made and how they have all changed since he took office? Not to mention all the Washington cronies he has appointed into positions of power so he may pay back all the favors that got him elected all in the name of "change." George Hamilton, Fairview Park

Uh, he's accomplished more in 72 hours than the idiot you voted for twice did in eight years, George. Fairview Park your ass in the dustbin, where regressive conservaturd ideology belongs.

12. Note to mwb970
How about we begin to set the record straight on this beatifully stated letter! One, you have no idea who the writer is, so to assume that they are "unenlightened" is rather naive. Two, the writer happens to be MY Mother, and an incredibly amazing Woman. Three, YOU obviously have not kept up with your dispatch reading...they NEVER have anything good to say about Pres. Bush! In fact they edited the letter, they removed the REALLY wonderful things she had to say about him. But on to the real point. You stated in your comment that Bush was GOD-forsaken. Have you thought for a moment about what you wrote? I'm thinking that you have not. He was one of the few Presidents that we've had (in recent years) who has made an HONEST attempt at running this country that scoffs at the thought of anything remotely GOD ordained. Do you realize that YOU do NOT know everything that Bush was privied to? That man was not only blessed by God for his faithfulness to THE WORD of God, but he was selected for a time such as this! I pray oh I pray that you will take a second look at what it means to be God forsaken! You know that Jesus said, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?" This was said because he was dying for YOU, taking YOUR sin upon Him. If you die with that sin still upon your head...ONLY then will you understand what that truly means!
Father God,
In the MIGHTY name of Jesus I ask that You would come in and show this person Your word! Father God Your word says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God! Lord show compassion on this person and bring someone into their life that will guide them to You! Thankyou Father God for Your faithfulness! In Jesus name, AMEN!

14. MODS - PLS don't delete above post
Perfect example of the utter ignorance we are battling.

And to the poster (on the slim chance you return), I assume you read the bible? Isn't one of the 10 Commandments "Thou shall not kill"? how about "Thou shall not bear false witness"? Or,"Thou shall not steal"? chimpy did all that and then some - I guess God left "Thou shall not torture" out of the 10 commandments because he figured that was a no-brainer. Well, chimpy has no brain, so he ordered the torture of hundreds (if not thousands) innocent people. And furthermore - Jesus served the poor, not the rich. You might want a little refresher reading on that chapter, too.

6. So obviously fake: What radio station would set up such a pointless debate
Yes, the media is still "out to get" Bush -- so none of it is his fault. No media outlet would set up "a debate whether George W Bush was the worst president of the 20th century or the worst president in American history." There's no sparks, no conflict there; and thus there'd be no ratings. Someone has flipped Stephen Colbert's old joke on its head (and apparently not realized it's a joke) about "Bush: Great President or the Greatest President?"
