Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer/comedian. We should treat him as
we do all comedians and entertainers. If we don't like what he says, we can turn him off, just like we do with Dennis Miller.

1. I don't even turn him on--so to speak...
It's all those who do and take him seriously and let him inflame them that concern me. That they believe his lies and make their decisions based on his garbage also concerns me. Keith always refers to him as Comedian Rush Limbaugh, which as you say, he is. Sadly, far too many don't get that part.

2. Yep, all this outrage over his remarks is simply music to his ears.
Rush thrives off of controversy, and the more outraged we get, the more listeners he gets and the more revenue his sponsors get, and the fatter Rush's contract gets, and around and around we go.

Ignore the man, turn him off, don't let him aggravate you. Let him fade into obscurity like Father Coughlin did.

27. True. Rush and Seans' audience don't seem to appreciate
nuance, rhetoric, irony, or other satirical devices. Rush and Sean are taken LITERALLY, and hence, we have a Lonesome Roads* situation in real life.

4. I agree.
I do wonder why he gets quoted and discussed on cable news though. Sometimes his opinions get cited like they are vital to the national discourse. I'd like this to end.

5. But why should our tax dollars pay to carry him & "Doctor" Laura on OUR Armed Forces Radio Network?
Are these the people we want beamed around the world on our dime as representative spokesmonsters of The American People?

Do we really want our tax dollars paying for Rush Limbaugh to disparage our President and demoralize our troops?

I say no.

Take Rush Limbaugh Off Armed Forces Radio Network
Posted October 1, 2007 | 04:14 PM (EST)

So Harry Reid is calling on all Senators to sign a letter condemning Rush Limbaugh for referring to soldiers in Iraq who have serious reservations about the war "phony soldiers."

I really don't know which is more exasperating -- that our Senators think it is their job to tell people at large how they should exercise their right to free speech, or that they fire back at Limbaugh in such a weak and meaningless way. I suppose they have to do something or we will be treated to an endless parade of Cornyn amendments where the Village Elders tell us all how displeased they are with such "uncivilized" rhetoric via fiat. They're only in this jam because they foolishly let the Cornyn MoveOn censure bill onto the floor in the first place. But now it's done, and they can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Would that their gesture was something more effective than stomping their feet and shouting "I know you are, but what am I?"

21. Like my brother...
This is why I seriously think Limpball's broadcasts need to be investigated by people who know something about subliminal message techniques.

I know, it sounds hyper-paranoid. It could be that he's doing nothing illegal. But I think his success needs to be studied carefully in order to be countered. He clearly knows how to brainwash people in a manner similar to Jim Jones.

7. You don't think we should...
fill up DU with a million posts about how horrible he is and how much we hate him, and that all the news stations should just stop giving him attention? (sarcasm)

Really, it even makes me mad when KO and Jon Stewart and them bring him up cause it gets his big fat ugly face on the tv every night and spreads his hate to the world.

23. Yeah, I just checked about 10% of the posts on the main page...
are about Limbaugh. And we're all his haters giving him this attention.

Anyone remember the movie Howard Stern - Private Parts? It's interesting because of the scene where they talk about people who Love Stern listen for an average of 2 hours a day or something, and people who hate him listen to him for 4 hours a day. Pigvomit says, "If they hate him, then why do they listen?" answer "To see what he'll say next"

11. Rush is dangerous.....like a loaded weapon....
I shudder to think of the millions of American Lemmings who depend on Rush for his warped, sick view of the world.

Just like Toykyo Rose, he pumps his venom into the American airwaves daily.

I would like to know who is paying Rush Millions$$ to keep him on the air? The Pentagon, PNAC , the CIA? It sure isn't the vitamin pushers of credit repair scams that advertise on his show.

Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 10:58 AM by NCevilDUer
Limbaugh is Julius Streicher, and his show is Der Sturmer, inciting the enemy within. Uses the same methods, appealing to the same segment of the population.

He's more dangerous than poor Rose ever DREAMED of being.

EDIT: at least SHE gave the GIs good music.

I can't imagine Rush in such classics as Joe Dirt, What Happens in Vegas, Bordello of Blood, The Net, Disclosure... wow Millers made some really, really terrible movies.

24. Forgive my ignorance, but is there a law against .... I'm ready to be....
flamed or made fun of...but a law against conspiracy to undermine the government.

We didn't undermine Bushco; they did it to themselves. Granted, many never accepted him as President because the Supreme Court appointed him, but I don't believe most of us WANTED him to fail. We simply remained vigilant ABOUT his failures; sadly, we expected them. We certainly didn't want all the consequences of his failures.

That's just the opposite with the Rush crowd. He's been in office three days, and they ARE OPENLY SAYING THEY WANT HIM TO FAIL.

And, call me what you want, but I don't doubt whatsoever that much of that crowd will actively seek to undermine his efforts in Cheney-esque manipulative ways, trying to make sure he fails. Granted, failure to them may be vastly different from what we would consider failure.

Still, I have always found he and Hannity and the others very, very dangerous because most DON'T see him as an entertainer. They actually get their news and opinions from those people, and blatant lies and hatred are spread across the airwaves on a daily basis.

25. Wanting him to fail, to me, is far different than wanting him to be overthrown.
As far as I can tell, oxy-boy has not advocated the overthrown of a legitimate government. Do we even know what he means by "fail"?

26. I agree, I see them as different. This isn't dissent, this is....
as "they" would say, Un-American.

I'm assuming he means any policy which the right views as "redistributing" wealth, which will destroy the country. Oy.

Between the "fail" comment and his "bend over and grab my ankles" comment, I'm hoping he's jumped the shark with this one.

He has definately jumped the shark, and hopefully boycotts of his sponsors will force them to re-evaluate their sponsorship of hatred.

the definition of "Theatre of the Absurd" and then apply it to Limbaugh and you will see quite a bit of similarity.
