20. Agent Mike was created by a melodramatic poster some believe was running a scam.

I'll let someone else name her, but she was soliciting donations to help her fund an investigation into election fraud. She claimed she had some secret material that would expose Bush and the Republicans as cheaters, but she needed help covering legal fees. She claimed that had been visited by a couple of "Agents," and that one of them, named "Agent Mike," was monitoring DU. By this time some of us had started to doubt the poster, and she lost more and more credibility. She even got chewed out on the Randi Rhodes show after Randi discovered holes in her story.

So Agent Mike is used by some to hint at government surveillance, by others to hint at paranoid gullibility, and still others as asort of informal fictional mascot to amuse ourselves and perhaps remind us of past phases of DU.

i had to call customer service about my internet provider....

the guy said his name was 'mike', but you know how they pull that crap...

anyway, he was in a sour mood, and was barely helpful, but once we got the matter resolved (and went through the list of questions trying to make me buy some-thing) we said our goodbyes...

as i was hanging up, i heard him saying, i guess just to his phone, "i hate this f***ing Indian food and I need some goddam a/c..."
