Update on Brittani

Hi All -

Just wanted to give you the latest on Brittani.



She is doing fantastic. The difference between the first transplant and this one are astounding.

Brittani was on 10 litres of O2 after transplant. They have weaned down to 2 liters now, which drs. say is great with her spo2 sat levels staying 97 to 99% range. She still experiencing quite a bit of pain when meds wear off, so they really have to stay on top of that. Mainly on oral meds now and if she rests too long without taking any, pain comes back. Drs. say she is well enough to move out of CICU to regular room.

She is doing great for only being out of major, major surgery for approximately 3 1/2 days.

We found out the first lungs she received came from a 44 year old woman who died from a stroke while receiving her second kidney transplant. Needless to say, they were not ideal for transplant, but Brit was in such bad shape it was those lungs, or death. The donor this time around was a 21 year old male, in excellent health.

And it is showing. Brit is doing wonderful. She's grouchy from the pain, but that is to be expected. Last time around, pain was not as much of a factor, and the fact she is feeling the pain from the incisions this time, rather than discomfort from her lungs, is truly encouraging.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We're not out of the woods yet - she will be in the hospital for at least another month, and anything can still go wrong. So please keep her in your thoughts. Will update again soon.

What a lovely expression she wears!

I am amazed at her recovery, really. It's remarkable. All the love you guys are giving her no doubt.

25. Wow! That is wonderful!!!!!

I sleep with 2 liters but I am old (almost 55). I hate to see such a child suffer but to go from 10 liters to 2 is phenomenal. I am keeping her in my prayers. I feel for anybody with lung issues, poor thing.
