Documents show Gonzales approved firings
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070324/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/fired_prosecutors

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales approved plans to fire several U.S. attorneys in a November meeting, according to documents released Friday that contradict earlier claims that he was not closely involved in the dismissals. The Nov. 27 meeting, in which the attorney general and at least five top Justice Department officials participated, focused on a five-step plan for carrying out the firings of the prosecutors, Justice Department officials said late Friday.

There, Gonzales signed off on the plan, which was crafted by his chief of staff, Kyle Sampson. Sampson resigned last week amid a political firestorm surrounding the firings.

The documents indicated that the hour-long morning discussion, held in the attorney general's conference room, was the only time Gonzales met with top aides who decided which prosecutors to fire and how to do it.

Justice spokeswoman Tasia Scolinos said it was not immediately clear whether Gonzales gave his final approval to begin the firings at that meeting. Scolinos also said Gonzales was not involved in the process of selecting which prosecutors would be asked to resign.

2. A "five-step plan?" Would that be anything like the "12-step program" that bushyboy
presumable went through?

Even my 10-year-old son, when we watched the clips of bushy's speech today, said "Did he get drunk before he made this speech?"

10. He did a 12 step program. He walked up a flight of stairs and assumed he'd completed it.

12. How long was the Nixon "tape gap," anyway? I'm sure it was less than 18 days.

9. It will never cease to amaze me how damn stupid these people are!
I'm not talking about their warped thinking. I'm talking about a lot of people, intelligent enough tograduate from top notch universities, pass bar exams, and in some cases, even more difficult training that that. They don't have the sense ofthe common backyard burgler!

Gonzo, of all people, HAD to know everything he was saying could very easily proven to be a lie! We are generations beyond being able to deny what you said...IT'S ALL ON TAPE!

People still criticize Bill Clinton for saying "it depends on what the meaning of is is.", but for God sake, he at least was using his head! Clinton really never did lie! His interpretation of sex is intercourse, and he DID NOT HAVE SEX with Monica.

This crowd justflat out lies, tells a different lie tomorrow, and the day after, and they apparently think nobody will notice!!!!!

11. This has been a no-brainer.
The US Attorney position is a very important one in Justice and it is a political plum. These people have very good political connections (which is not saying that they politicize the office, they're just well-connected). The get thier jobs with the help of the senators and reps in their state. If they didn't have that support, they would never have that job. SO, they don't get canned without people at the top knowing about it...I mean people at the very top. If canning these people was such a non-event, we wouldn't be wading through thousands of pages of correspondence about it. For Gonzo to say he had no part in this is the height of idiocy or arrogance, or both. Listen, these Bush Administration folks watch everything and they are certainly watching the various prosecutions around the country that might involve "their people" or the Dems. They knew exactly what was happening here. What I wonder is if there is a case out there that was very damaging to them, that hadn't ripened into a prosecution yet...some USA that was about to uncork something...so they fired 8 to cover the one USA they were really worried about. Given the WH overreaction to all of this, I can't help but wonder. Someone needs to take a look at cases in the pipeline, cases that hadn't hit the mainstream yet, cases that the WH was worried would see the light of day.

16. With the full "confidence" of the pres. himself.
so either Bush lied by saying that, knowing Gonzo was full of it or he's incompetent and doesn't know whats going on. I know what I believe, but those are the choices. Lowdown dirty and rotten.
